Contractions but no dialation

I was admited to the hospital last night due to contractions, they were painless but frequent and intense. Anybody else had this problem? I will be 35 weeks tomorrow!

Re: Contractions but no dialation

  • Same here! I woke up with regular, slightly painful cramps. I was admitted for the day and they gave me fluids to stop them. (They thought it could have been dehydration) I was about 34 weeks at that point but I'm having twins so it was less nerve racking since we all knew they will probably come early. My midwife checked my cervix and I was dilated 1cm and effaced 50%. Ever since I've had contractions on the daily. Most regular and intense but I'm only 1cm dilated still. Did they say u should go in for a few nst before the birth just to make sure everything's okay? I would just stay hydrated and take it easy and don't be afraid to go back in if u think the contractions are happening again!

  • They thought it was dehydration for me as well! But after a bag of fluids and a huge cup of water they were still coming. I ended up having to get a shot that night and again that morning when it started to happen again. She is a big girl and I am a small mom so we knew she wouldn't make it full term but a few more weeks would be nice!
  • I was having minor contractions when I got admitted after going in for a UTI/bladder infection. They checked me and I was 1 cm and after 2 bags of saline they stopped and things cinched back up a little and they sent me home the next morning. I still get some contractions throughout the day but nothing real regular.

I went into labor & delivery at 34 weeks with contractions that were 4-8 min apart but they weren't strong enough to change my cervix so I got sent home after 2 hours... now I'm 36 weeks, they're more intense but they're more sporadic. I don't know how to deal with these contractions anymore, I'm so ready!!! (This is also my 3rd baby)

This happened to me as well, last week I went in for my nst.  I've been having mild cramping and some pressure on my pelvic area but just thought it was because the baby had dropped.  My doctor read my nst and said I was having regular contractions and wanted a urine sample.  Well, come to find out I have a UTI.  Now I'm on antibiotics and feel so much better.  No more cramping other than the usual non-painful braxton hicks.  I never thought I would have had a UTI because I didn't have any burning or pain while urinating, but I guess you don't have to have those symptoms.  I guess if you have a UTI it can irritate the uterus to cause contractions and if left untreated can be a cause of pre term labor, so if you haven't been checked for that make sure you do.
