Transfer decision: how much time and info were you given?

We just did our first IVF transfer on Friday and I found it very bizarre, in terms of communication. The clinic's website (SG) and handout instructions make it seem like the doctor and embryologist will sit down and discuss in great detail how many/which embryos to transfer. However, on the morning of our Day 5 transfer we were brought straight into the procedure room by the nurse who instructed me to get undressed. We hadn't heard anything since Day 3 so we thought we would talk to the doctor first, not go straight into the procedure room. The nurse wasn't giving any straight answers either. The doctor finally came in and told us we only had two embryos to choose from so maybe they thought it was just a choice of 1 or 2. But still, it seemed odd to me, to be getting this info in the procedure room. Is that strange or is that how other clinics deliver this kind of info?

Re: Transfer decision: how much time and info were you given?

  • That does sound odd. We got a call everyday to update us on how our embies were growing. Everything had been discussed/decided before I went in for the transfer. How many did you end up transferring?
  • We transferred two at day 5, one growing normally and the other was significantly delayed. It was also a full moon that day and i think half the staff was out on vacation (including my RE), so maybe the communication breakdown was just a fluke?
