October 2015 Moms

Anyone else slacking on baby stuff?

This is my third child. My youngest is 7 and I didn't keep anything from when she was a baby. And, so far I haven't bought anything for the new baby, and I decided not to have a baby shower, so I am way behind. I dont even have a bed for her! Everyone is posting about freezer meals and packing hospital bags, and I literally don't have a single diaper, nursing bra, outfit, nothing!! Luckily, my mom bought us a car seat and stroller, so I have something for her to come home in (but it's still at my moms house an hour away) Strangely, I'm not even that stressed out about my situation.. It's not even that I CAN'T buy things, I just haven't had the urge or motivation.
Am I alone? Is this a third baby thing? With my other two I was so prepared and had everything ready way in advance..

Re: Anyone else slacking on baby stuff?

  • You're not alone! This is baby #2 and I have nothing ready. My situation is a bit different that DS is 22 months, so I have everything, but it's all still in the basement storage! I have not even begun to think about meals or packing my hospital bag - although I did order some new bras and pajamas which should be delivered next week.

We painted the nursery today so that makes me feel a little better! As much as I'm done being pregnant I would like to feel more prepared before this little one arrives so I'm hoping s/he hangs out until closer to my due date.

I was so prepared and organized for DS that this is freaking me out a bit!

  • I'm somewhat in the same boat. This too is my third and my youngest is 6. We didn't keep anything but a bag of clothes. I got those down and washed. My sister gave us a bed ,Co sleeper, blankets, boppy. Ams I've bought a few things. But I have no car seat, bottles, diapers, stroller, sling, nothing for me post partum. I'm not stressed I know I don't have to have everything as soon as I'm home. I can send hubby to target before we are discharged for a car seat if I had to. .. It'll come together. I've just been so busy with my older kiddos with school starting and activities. ..
  • Lol baby number one here. I may just me the worlds greatest procrastinator, but before my shower today I had absolutely nothing and the only thing I had done was paint. Now I have a giant mess to organize, but I'm also not stressed. What does a new born really need anyway?
  • Baby #2 due 10.27 here. I've pulled things out of storage, and ordered a few things but nothing has been assembled/hung/painted/organized. No hospital bag (I do have a list and a pile I've started, does that count?), and there will be no deep clean or freezer meals. I have the basics ready, and my BF is coming in town in a couple of weeks to help organize the nursery. For whatever isn't finished, I will put DH to work, and if he doesn't have time then it will just have to wait until we're on mat leave. I did allllll the things for DS1, but I'm not feeling the pressure the same way this time. Between a full time job and a 21 month old, time is very limited, and I'd rather be getting some precious sleep! The high priority items are handled, and I'm not stressed. I don't call it slacking, maybe more like strategic procrastinating :D
  • Baby #3 here and I am in the same boat. I bought about a half a dozen sleepers and my mom has bought a few other clothes, but that is all we have. With a potential induction date 6 weeks away(medical reasons) I feel like I should be a lot more stressed about it than I am. I just figure that I will be in the hospital for two days and there is always Amazon overnight delivery. Babies don't need that much when they are that tiny anyway.

The only thing that concerns me is that I cannot get a breastpump through insurance until 30 days before my due date and since both of my kids were early, that is cutting it a little close for my comfort, especially since it will be sent to me.

We are team green, so we are going to wait until we know if it is a boy or girl to get the room all decorated. And the baby will be in our room for the first few months anyway.
  • Yeah we've done very little here. It's #2 and also a girl like our first. I have a lot of stuff stored at my sister's house an hour away but am not due till the end of October so I probably have lots of time. At least I hope so! If I were to make freezer meals now they'd all be eaten by the time the baby came anyways :)
  • I literally just ordered everything tonight! EDD is 10-22. Don't know why I waited so long, just didn't feel like doing it! You'll have everything you'll need. A baby, as you well know, doesn't really need much!

I don't like that we have to wait til 30 days prior either to order breast pump. Like what's the harm in 45/60 days?! Team green as well so we did Grey and white in nursery and will accent later with a color.
  • I don't have anything either. My shower is September 20, and I don't want to buy anything before the shower. I actually wish I would have had the shower earlier so that I could get prepared sooner, but so it goes!
  • This is baby #1 for me and I'm not nearly as prepared as I thought I would be. We have most of the things we need since I've already had my shower but it's not all organized and put away. The nursery still looks like we've just been stacking stuff in the middle of the floor.

Time has just snuck up on me recently and now I'm feeling the pressure to get it all done.
  • Crazy I am the opposite I have everything for the baby and now packing the bag.. We are getting induced October 29.. This baby 4 for me but my youngest is almost 13 and oldest is 23.. I feel more prepared for this one than I was for all the others ..I got my breast pump from insurance when I turned 30 weeks.. You really don't need much I honestly just bought everything on sale and I knew at 4 weeks I was pregnant (ivf).. So it feels like it's been forever ..
  • Just start ordering online, thats what I've been doing.
  • I have been complete opposite until last week. I have everything for the most part, but I can't seem to bring myself to hang the decor in the nurseries, wash the cloths, pack our bags, make a meal/let alone a freezer meal or get the car seat out....not sure what my problem is (fear?) but I am normally very type A and need things to be done. I am anti-nesting!! Lol
  • Baby #4 here and up until about a week and a half ago, I had nothing. We gave away most of our baby stuff when our DD outgrew it. I'll be 36 weeks on Wednesday and my second child was born at 36 weeks. When I hit about 34 weeks, I started to panic over the thought of baby getting here early and having absolutely nothing, so we went out and got the pack n play (where baby will sleep for the first 6-7 months) and car seat. My sister gave me some clothes and I bought some newborn cloth diapers from a friends. I JUST ordered postpartum stuff from Amazon so it should get here before Baby. That's all I really need, right? A place for him to sleep, a car seat, clothes and diapers? He will be exclusively breastfed so I've got that covered, too.

    Married to J since 5/05, Mommy to T (10/08), L (08/10) and C (02/13) who was born at home.

  • Same here. Third biological, but have two bonus, youngest is four and we only had the pack and play I kept. We just ordered our car seat two days ago and are waiting till the first week in October to buy clothing. I figure once we have the car seat everything else is cheaper and easier to let fall into place. I also anticipate our friends bringing gifts to our potluck the first week of October because they've asked about a shower a ton of times and when I say that we aren't having one they keep saying they have stuff for us.

We aren't ready really at all! I've attached a sad picture of his little nursery so far.

We have a stroller and car seat, some toys and a few other thing people have given us. We do have clothes, but a lot of them are bigger, 3-6 months.

Here's the other side of the room. We have an armoire. No crib, nothing else ready for baby!!! I want to get everything done so I can post a real nursery picture!

We have two showers coming up in September and I'm not due until 10/31 but I'm definitely feeling the need to nest!
