baby carriers/wearing

Hello Ladies! Have a happy Labor Day Weekend!

I'm looking for input on baby carries. I've been debating Boba or Ergo Baby? Can anyone give me some pro's/con's or let me know what they're using.  I had a Baby Bjorn with the first two pregnancies and I continued to use it despite that it killed my back.

Thanks, Jenny

Re: baby carriers/wearing

  • When DS was very little (<4 mo) I used the Moby wrap carrier all the time.  I just used it in it's most simple position, and DS loved to snooze in there snuggled up against me.  It was a great way to go for walks, go out into the world and have my hands free, and I liked snuggling with him like that.
Moby PROS:  can be adjusted to many positions, sizes.  Lightweight, washable, great for newborns
Moby CONS:  Takes some practice to get on and tie correctly, positions for older babies not always comfortable.

Once he got bigger and could support his head, I moved over to the Ergo carrier and used that for almost 1.5 years.  My DS loved being in this thing, and eventually when he got big enough I would put him in it on my back.  I found the Ergo very good at distributing weight, and it was extremely easy to use.
Ergo PROS:  Easy to get baby in/out and adjust, can be used for a very long time as baby develops, lightweight, washable, very good at weight distribution of baby so back/shoulders don't hurt.
Ergo CONS:  Honestly can't think of much... I love mine!

Hope that is helpful!  I look forward to using both carriers again with #2... I think they will really help when I have both small children to manage on my own!

  • My Bjorn killed my back as well.  I opted for a Ring Sling this time and love it! I have a Moby but found it much to complicated and the material was way to warm for me, I also never really felt like DS was secure in it.

I've heard good things about the Ergo as well and the Bjorn Carrier One (their newest model) has apparently addressed all of the issues with the previous Bjorns.  Here is my go to site for all info on carriers and wraps:

  • Have you looked into a Tula carrier? I hear Bjorn doesn't provide proper support to the baby.
  • Based on Lucie's List I went with the K'Tan and then a Tula.
  • After talking to my friend, I opted for the Lillebaby carrier. My friend had either bought or tried a whole bunch of carriers and she liked the Lillybaby best.
  • This is my 3rd & I have a boba wrap so I can "wear" him more frequently around the house while chasing after my toddler. However, I also wanted a carrier my husband would want to wear... I was stuck between the lillebaby or the ergo however zulily had a sale on ergos ($60 instead of $120) so I snagged one yesterday. The wraps are awesome because they're very lightweight & flexible... however you may have to adjust it frequently... The ergo I'll use when he's a little older
  • Invest in a Tula if you had issues with your back. It's spendy but worth it.
  • The back on boba comes up a little higher than ergo (better for older child), but beyond that they were equally comfortable. I am using a month and ring sling until he has head control, then moving to Lenny lamb and Tula.
  • I used an Ergo from birth and have zero complaints. When my son was a newborn I tucked his legs under his bum, and as he grew and it became warmer they came out. I used it almost every day for the first year as a front carrier and past then as a back carrier so he could see the world better.

I still have it and plan to use it for this baby although I'm tempted to get the new version that baby could face out or toward you in the front carrier position.
  • We got a k'tan and I also received two different kinds of baby slings. DH is not interested in using the k'tan so we are also planning on getting the ergo 360. He tried that on in the baby store and really liked it. I'd like to be able to use that for awhile and the k'tan around the house
  • I have a few tulas and I love them. Super comfortable and beautifully made.

This is exactly my plan for this baby! Moby is great for infants and I even learned how to nurse hands free with a moby!

It is an investment to buy both, but oh so worth it!!
  • I would LOVE a Tula but oh em gee, $200+?!?!? I almost grabbed one for $15 off a Facebook group but the girl totally flaked and broke my heart. I keep checking craigslist, but nothing ever pops up under $180.

The Boba 4G looks similar and has great reviews. It's about $125, but I think you can use the 20% off coupon at BBB to make it a little more affordable. They also sell it at Target.
