Starting Day Care...

My 23 week old starts daycare Wednesday part time. I'm really nervous because she is really temperamental, she needs mommy constantly. More so than I think most people could understand. She's been going to work with me since she was 3 weeks old. She was exclusively breast fed until about 14 weeks, now she eats some foods and takes formula. She only eats well when she's breastfeeding. But for the most part she is stuck on momma. She only falls asleep on the boob (I know how bad that is, but I can only try to correct it now), she cries hysterically if she can't locate me (I'm talking shakes and hyperventilates for more than 2 hrs) and she even does this with dad when he's alone with her.

How can I help her, is there anything I can do to help her adjust better for daycare? Adjust in general.. We want to be able to have a date night....

Re: Starting Day Care...

  • My son is/was the same way. He has gotten slightly Better with daddy lately and enjoys playing with daddy but still only wants me when hungry/sleepy. I think breastfeeding plays a huge role in the constant need for mommy. My son started daycare 3 weeks ago. I'm not going to lie- the first couple days were rough. He refused to drink from a bottle from them. I had to go see him over my lunch break and feed him. He settled in after a few days. Having the same teacher in the room helps. Also, it was much easier on him if he was asleep in the car seat when I dropped him off in the morning and if he was awake I had to leave quickly. The longer you hang around the more worked up baby gets. Also, my daycare asked me to leave a shirt i had worn. They would leave it around baby so he still had my scent. It will be a rough first few days, but baby will adjust quickly!
