Are there any Psychologist moms out there?

I’m a FTM clinical psychologist with a busy private practice. Typically, being away from patients for more than a few weeks is frowned upon. I certainly plan on taking more than a few weeks off. My patients have another provider who will be covering for emergencies and I am allowing them to contact me via phone if needed.  I’m curious about how long other psychologists have gone without seeing their patients after the birth of their baby.

  • I work for the government, so my clients will be taken care of while I'm on leave. One of my clients said "won't your leave be problematic for your clients?" And I had to chuckle. I let my clients know that I am a real person with a real personal life. I am not the only person on the planet available to help them! I am taking 12 weeks and while my clients won't know that I will be checking emails, my casework tech knows and I will be able to walk her through anything that comes up that she feels she can't handle on her own. I'm nervous about taking 12 weeks but I know I honestly won't care or have time to think about work once I'm home with the baby! Best of luck to you!!!
