Diaper genie elite/essential and carbon filters

So ive already decided after long debate that we will be using a diaper genie, it just works for our home so if youre just going to say its useless or something not to be rude but i dont want to hear it.

My question is, is their really a difference between the two and can you use the filter on the essentials. Only the elite box advertises the filter but when you look at the filter refills it seems you stick them pretty much anywhere. Im just trying to decide if i want to save the $10 to get some baby towels or something on the gift card I got at my shower or just spend it all on the elite?

  • We purchased a combo pack that came with the regular and the elite when we were expecting our son last year and a. we LOVE our diaper genies. We gave the regular to my parents to have there and we were actually able to purchase the carbon filter and use it on that one too (all it is a stick on container that holds the filter). The best feature of the elite is it is larger, holding more diapers at once and it has a foot pedal that opens the lid, closes the top off to the rest of the diapers so you don't get a massive waft of odor and you just toss your diaper right into the top. Once you release the pedal it opens up to the rest of the container dropping the diaper into the pail. The regular is not like that and you have to open the lid, and push your diaper down through the top into the pail.
  • Well with an attitude like that, telling people how not to respond to your post. Good luck with getting any advice you want.

ETA; research them both and see what's best for you.

Kind of hard to say someone has an attitude when youre reading text not hearing their voice. I just dont feel like scrolling through a bunch of comments that arent answering what im asking :) these forums are ment to answer people questions and sometimes people get to stuck on their opinions that rlly arent helpful is all.

Def sounds like ill be splurging on the elite. I was looking them up last night and didnt see anywhere say the difference in how they open and seal the smell thats really good to know! Explains why some people say they dont like it because its just a woosh of smell when you open it and some say it never smells at all :) thank you

I buy the diaper bags at the dollar store for the poop diapers (shopping bags work too, but we always run out) and pee diapers just go straight in the trash.
We took the trash out more often when DS was little, but since he started solids they do not smell as bad.

That is kind of what I was planning on doing- thanks!

  • I would totally accept someone saying that they prefered one over the other but they found it useless. Ive notice women posting lookibg for items on fb and people just respond with youll never use it or theyre pointless kind of thing. Im just stating that im already certain that it will work for me so i just want to know what people think about the two :) done deffending myself so if anyone else has an opinion or question related to the use of the diaper genie or other disposal methods that would be great.

Having a trash can with a lid and getting the scented trash bags also help.
  • We have the regular diaper genie for my DD. This is the first I've heard of the carbon filter. Does it really work?
  • You seem to be getting really worked up over something that stores poo.

I have a Bubula. It contains the stink and uses regular trash bags. Also, it looks nicer than the genie.
  • I got the Dekor Plus. Loved the color and the single bag. Fingers crossed it doesn't suck!
  • We just bought 2 elites, and I appreciate he foot petal! We had two of the other kind, and I would always have the issue of having to push it down and getting stuff on my fingers. I'd go elite if I had to do it all over again.

Babe, saying "I'm already certain that it will work for me" is a good way to find yourself eating a LOT of crow once baby comes. Just sayin. Your horse is mighty high

The reason i say it will work for my home is because of different aspects to my family ive been debating my whole pregnancy whether i will just use regular bins and we have come to the conclusion that due to our lifestyle and the animals in our home a diaper genie or something of the sort is necessary. I guess i worded it wrong haha yes theres a chance that i will hate it when i use it.

My gf has one with the filter and she says that it does. Its around $5 for the case you stick on and 4 refills i believe so id say its worth a try
Also just want to add i had a litterbox with a carbon filter and it was amazing so if its anything like that! Haha
  • Ive never heard of a dekor or bubalu, Ill have to look them up. Ive seen some cute colorful ones online but theyre way more expensive than the genie so im not sure if its either of those brands

Got the same. Hoping it's good!

We used a safety first regular diaper pail. It uses one large trash bag and has a push button small hole in the top for putting dirty diaper with a cage to put replacement deodorizers in. It's been in use for 15 months and works great. It came with a deodorizer disc but once that word out we use the munchin arm&hammer kind which run about $0.75 a piece I believe plus the cost per full sized trash bag about $0.10 each. Far less expensive from an initial purchase price and maintenance stand point than the diaper genie and works very well.

For our cloth diapers (we're a mixed diaper home) we use a step pedal trash can with a wet bag as a liner and a deodorizer attached to the inner can lid.

We use the ubbi diaper pail. You can use regular trash bags with it or they make cloth diaper bags for it.

Most people I know hat use disposables just put the poopy diapers in the outside trash right away.

I plan on using a regular trash can with deodorizers for cloth, too.  What brand/size of wet bag are you using?  The biggest one I could find between the more "mainstream" places was the Kangacare, but it says it only holds up to 15 diapers, and I think I'm going to shoot for 20-25 diapers in a load and tweak from there...

I can't remember the brand but it was carried at Target. If you are using pockets I'd recommend pulling the liners out prior to putting them in the pail. We are lazy and have 48 one size pockets so sometimes there are as many as 40 in there. I'll do some research and see if I can find the exact one.
  • thanks for the ideas!
