Hemroids...

Happy weekend everyone! I checked the search box and had no results from our group. I'm wondering if I'm the only one suffering from my new friends or if any of you have advice. It all started two days ago with an itch (sorry to be so graphic.) after two nights of waking up every few hours with an itch/sensation I would wish on no one, eight hours in the car, and having to leave a wedding early I lay on my left side indoors on a beautiful day looking for relief. From what I have read this will not hurt the baby which is most important. I have been using ice packs which does help a little. antone else suffering? I added almonds to my diet and believe they added to my problem!

Re: Hemroids...

  • I had this problem with my first and have it worse with this pregnancy. I use tucks pads, drink lots of water and take extra fiber to keep things moving. The worst thing you want to do is strain trying to have a BM or you'll end up with worse problems. Sitting can exacerbate the issue, so I try not to sit straight up and down for too long and definitely don't just sit on the toilet, it puts too much pressure on everything. As with most things in pregnancy, this too shall pass.

  • It's a common problem that I have a history of with IBS. I'm sort of used to it at this point. As @ariasbabyblog said, do not strain on the toilet! I try to eat a lot of greens as that helps. Also, you can try cutting down on the carbs a little, as they can make your BMs more uncomfortable. I have been on a gluten free diet to help with this and it has helped immensely. I use preparation H wipes with witch hazel to relieve the itch. You can also just use straight witch hazel on a cotton ball. Good luck, hope it passes quickly!
  • Also, in addition to above, toilet paper irritates them more. Get you some wipes for a while.
  • I posted about this a few months ago and got some helpful responses! I was shocked to be experiencing it as early as I was. One recommendation was buying witch hazel, which I did. I'll douse some toilet paper with it to wipe with after a BM. It is soothing and doesn't irritate the area further. Mine isn't terribly itchy or painful, just a little bit, but I feel like it almost obstructs my sphincter (sorry!). It's a real annoyance and I hope that it will go away!
  • Epson salt baths! With some tee tree oil in there... Helps so much!
  • Try getting some peppermint essential oil and putting a few drops in the toilet water before you sit down to poop. It helps things relax so you aren't straining and making things worse.

Good luck! I've had a small one before and it was super painful.
  • I have too much experience with this... Epsom salt baths are a life saver, it makes things feel better and can get things moving. Target has some cheap Target brand "medicated wipes" that really only have witch hazel, its much more convenient than preparing TP everytime you go or need some relief. Apple sauce is my favorite way to get things moving when I catch the problem before its a problem, not sure if it really works for everyone. If things are still difficult to move right now and adding fiber isn't helping you might want to look into a softener. You really don't want it getting worse, internal ones hurt WAY worse.

Hopefully it will go away soon, good luck!

  • The women's preparationH wipes with witch hazel are amazing! Lol. I never thought I'd be so excited over something such as PHwipes. Haha!
  • Over the weekend I noticed my first one since I got pregnant :(. My appointment is tomorrow so I was going to ask my ob what I can/can't use. This is helpful ladies! Thank you
  • Thank you everyone for your replies! I'm not out of the woods yet but will be making a pharmacy run on the way home!
  • This might not be to comforting but you'll get used to them. I have ibs so they are just something I deal with. I like to use the cottonelle wipes instead of tp when they are more painful and I am a huge fan of ph wipes. I hate them so sorry you're having to deal with it... Oh the wonders of pregnancy!!!!!
