I have no answers since I will be a FTM but I would like to know this too, wondering if it's okay to take a newborn out of the hospital in a belly wrap.

Ftm here too. I thought a belly wrap was a support wrap for your tummy after baby is delivered to help you get back your shape. @PetitNightingale do you mean one of the carriers to wear your baby? I know it depends on the state you live in if you are in the US but in MA they legally can not let you leave the hospital unless the baby is in an infant car seat/bucket seat. They actually make you bring it in before discharge so they can inspect it, if you don't have one they have loaner ones to borrow if needed.

I didn't use a belly wrap after my first because I had a c-section and the surgeon didn't recommend it. He felt I needed time to heal before I used that stuff.

@PetitNightingale you could benefit from calling the hospital you're delivering at and asking these questions. You may benefit from an Infant safety class or parenting class. You can check with your local fire department for guidance on those if your hospital isn't helpful (whch, the hospital will be more than accommodating on these fronts).

Also, for anyone who wants the info, your local fire departments or police departments do free checks on the installation of csr seats. You just call and set up an appointment.

I used the belly bandit wrap...I got it because I could get it in black and was a Velcro wrap so easy to put on and I didn't have to take it off when I went to the bathroom. I used it more with my first child then my second just because it was a very busy time having two. For sure I will use it more this time around since I noticed a big difference and got compliments when I visited co workers and family.

It does not say u need to wait to use it but with both my previous pregnancies I waited two days post baby then started to use it. So I did not bring it with me to the hospital and just took some time to let my mid section relax before I started to wrap it.

Also, with this wrap it states to use it day and night but I took it off at night so I could be comfortable and get some good sleep in between waking up with baby. It's your preference if u would want to wear it 24-7 but this is my experience with them. FYI: I'm 5'6 and weigh 130-135 post baby and I got a size small and it works perfect.

I hope this info helps some ftm's out there as well!

FTM, but I am ordering a mamastrut post-partum support and they recommend bringing it to the hospital with you to help with the pain and post-birth cramping/swelling. I'm getting one more for the back/pelvic support and pain relief (and it has inserts to apply ice and heat) than to get back my shape

I've read that there are similar shapewear items for your hips as well. If one were to purchase both a midsection support and a hip support would that be just as effective or maybe slightly counterintuitive?

I've being doing some research and lots of people have said that the belly bandit is a good brand. They have some pretty good reviews on their website as well!

The MamaStrut is for both midsection and hip/pelvis support, it basically is like a pair of shorts instead of just a belly wrap. Not to sound like an advertisement, but it seems to cover all the bases.

Thanks ladies! And just to confirm I am talking about the post partum wraps. I saw the hip one too, but I've never seen them worn together. I'm sure you could, I do wonder how comfortable that would be.

And I'll probably go with the belly bandit too after reading reviews

This is fantastic advice, thank you. Looks like I will definitely have to have someone drive me from the hospital with a carseat for LO.
