Weird non-baby movement

Baby has been moving like crazy so I know what it feels like. After a workout tonight I leaned back and something inside my stomach jolted around and scared the crap out of me. It happened again when I was sitting down and leaned forward. It was too high to be the baby. My husband asked if it hurt because he thought it could be a hernia, but it doesn't hurt...it's just sudden and scary. The feeling is hard to explain but if someone has felt the same thing and knows what it is please inform me! My doc appointment is next week but Should I call?

Re: Weird non-baby movement

  • Probably just a muscle spasm. I get them under my boobs and on the side.
  • Loading the player...
  • I've not experience the same, but depending on how high it is, it could still be the baby. I am 21 weeks and my baby's head is an inch below my left rib. I had no idea he could be that high up! We just saw him a couple days ago and it explained a lot of weird movement I have been feeling. Note I am 5' tall also, so there isn't as much length of torso involved.

Baby could have also put pressure on a nerve. Personally, I wouldn't worry.
  • If there was no pain, no need to worry. Like pp said, depending on your body make it could have been baby. Every pregnancy is different. With my second, I kept swearing up and down at 19 weeks I could feel baby kick my (previously broken 6 months prior) rib. Sure enough it was confirmed.
  • I think I know you're talking about. I've felt weird sudden jolts, almost like an electrical shock that doesn't hurt and lasts a split second. It only happens when I'm doing something that requires ab muscles, like getting up from lying down. I think it's the fibers in your muscle tissue separating or stretching suddenly. It is a very strange feeling, but normal.
  • At 16 weeks and 5 days I felt my babies kicking like crazy. They started like at 10 am and didn't stop kicking until 4pm. They kicked so much the sheet that I was covered with on the bed would move also. Like I could physically see my tummy bouncing up and down. It was the best experience ever as I was so excited to finally feel them kicking. That said, I haven't felt them kick hard like that since that day. I'm now 20 weeks. I feel jabs and pokes daily but no hard kicks since week 16. During ultra sounds they are actively moving in my tummy as shown on the screen but I'm just so desperate to feel the kicks again. The kicks are my reassurance that they are fine.
Should I be worried that I'm not feeling the kicks and only mild movement at 20 weeks?
  • I'm having a very similar experience.....anybody else? This is my first pregnancy that has lasted this long....

A few nights ago I woke up from having such a power movement that I initially thought I was going to puke. But realized since I wasn't neauseus it had to have been some major movement. It made my whole abdominal cavity jump like he did a back flip. I have never expericed that strong and sudden of a movement at 22wks before or any other time being pregnant.
  • Is the baby still moving in "normal" ways too?  If so, I wouldn't really worry about it but would bring it up at the doctor.  If not, I would call just to ease my mind.
