Ideas for the board! Input please!

So I was apart of the Oct 2014 board and everyday we had a thread for that day. And whoever happen to get on first would make it. The title would be something like humpday wed, fantastic Friday and so forth. We would basically talk about our days and what not. I know it's kinda early right now but as we continue to grow as a community I think this will help us get to know one another. You can talk about whatever, rant about DHs, talk about appointments, your animals, food, anything! Or just drop in and give helpful advice! This help cut down on random threads and gives us something to do/read! So what's everyone's thoughts on this!

Re: Ideas for the board! Input please!

  • I was just thinking about this the other day! I am so glad you brought it up. I think Monday's would be good days to start weekly appointment and symptoms threads? That way people know where to look and it's easy to post for the week? Just a thought :)

And once we start showing in a couple months I love the wednesday bump day idea.

  • Sounds like a good idea to me :)
  • We had all of these on our last board and also the weekly ticker change (where if you switch to a new week on a certain day you share things and answer a GTKY kind of question). So there would be one of those every day but you only join the one on the day you change. Sorry if that's confusing. It was a lot of fun and I imagine some of you were part of those too. :)

  • There is a lot of information on pregnancy dos/don'ts/best practices floating around on the internet, but perhaps we could create a well-sourced thread on research related to all the things we are learning about and experiencing. One thing that I wanted to do on the TTGP board (but never publicly posted) was a crowdsourced thread with links to research on various oft-discussed topics. Example: Links to research on studies related to caffeine/alcohol consumption among pregnant women, or research about weight gain (as two examples).  Another example: there is a post right now about the chance of *not* having a miscarriage. Something like that could go on the thread (assuming we could find the source material--Which relates to my bigger point--that chart is great, but where is the source? Is the data authentic, or is something that has just picked up traction and is now making its way through TB?)

Ideally, something like this would need to be pinned so it stays on the front page. I'm not sure how that works, though.

  • I had another idea while walking my dog (as an aside, this is where I do ALL my best thinking!): One concern I have is gaining the appropriate amount of weight. I have been a member of MyFitnessPal for over a year now, and when I decided to ttc, I posted a thread there, asking moms what they did (or wish they did) eating/exercise wise while they were pregnant. By and large the No. 1 response was "I wish I had tracked/logged what I ate while I was pregnant."

I am going to do that myself, but perhaps a daily thread along the lines of "What did you eat today?" or something like that? Or maybe that question can be part of the daily thread that asks GTKY questions, etc. Of course the intent would be to find the support/encouragement to eat right during this whole process and not food shame.

  • ^^ while I know your intentions are good, threads about weight are a very touchy subject. You have no idea how others are feeling and for many, weight is a huge source of anxiety during pregnancy. Asking "what did you eat today" sounds like a really bad idea, honestly. Anyone recovering from any kind of disordered eating could have a really hard time with that. The last thing we want to do is add stress to an already stressful situation!

That being said, I think a general fitness thread would be ok. Like a Fitness Friday or something. Check in to talk about workouts and encourage each other -- especially later in pregnancy when staying active can be tough.
  • I like a fitness/overall health thread.

I always avoided weight threads in my past BMB. I don't care if anyone else wants to talk about it, but it never made me leave feeling good... just me though.

I always liked having separate weekly or daily threads for symptoms, appointments and then general spam/randomness. Nothing gets lost and people are focused on the same thing in those threads.

    Just my 2 cents!

  • I like the usual.... FFFC, HFBD, the weekly check ins, and the UO threads. I always feel like I get to know people best in those threads :o)
  • I really like the idea of the daily threads. Its a great way for all of us to keep track of what was going on during our pregnancy, and if we ever need to know what we did a certain day for a doctor or something we can be all like "hang on, let me check my mommy group for that day!" :-bd
  • I like having the daily threads, but would prefer them to be more or less specific, with maybe a weekly random thread.

I hear what you're saying. My feeling is health and well being is an important part of this for many women during pregnancy, though.

@vinerie I totally agree that health and well-being is an important part of pregnancy, which is why I think a general fitness thread is a good idea.

I think a WEIGHT thread would be detrimental to the health and well being of many. We're all going to fluctuate in weight throughout this pregnancy and there is no one "right" number we should all be hitting. Comparing weight to someone else can send anyone down a really stressful road. Some will gain more, some less and some of that will be beyond our control.
  • I agree. I don't think it needs to focus on weight.

What if it was a healthy living thread? If people want to use that place to talk about their weight, of course they are more than welcome to.

  • Yes I agree with PP as far as weight goes it can be a touchy subject. I know at 30 weeks I'm gonna feel and look huge lol! While other mommas will post about their healthy snack I'll be eating probably something not healthy such as a kit-kac or French fries!

I do like the fitness idea though with both of my DD being born in October, I spent majority of the hard part of pregnancy during the summer. It was just to dang hot to be outside walking! So I'm looking forward to this one during the winter months!!

Cool thanks for the input ladies!!
  • With regard to what did you eat today thread.

People post pictures of their all the cakes and ice cream and crap they eat because of cravings. (Which I never had so kinda think are rediculous.)

Anyway instead of z thousand... look at the hall of cookies and cake mixes an ice cream with chocolate syrup I made my DH go out and buy tonight... a "what fid you eat today" thread sound like a great place them.

I also agree--nowhere in my post did I suggest a thread asking to check in on weight!
