Silly FTM Question- What do do with the crib comforter?

Hey ladies,

OK so I know that the crib should only contain your baby and the fitted sheet (or that netting type stuff instead of bumpers, but no bumpers).

My question is, what do you do with the adorable comforter that came with the crib bedding set?!

Re: Silly FTM Question- What do do with the crib comforter?

  • Hmm I know some people like to hang it on the wall as decoration. I never bought a comforter set just the cute sheets sets and wall decals. I prob would save it until baby was older to use it though, maybe a year old if not older by then they would be able to break free of any blankets on their face etc..

  • I think its only meant to be used as a decorative item. I let my daughter use it when she was old enough for blankets however.

    I never bought a set with one, but I've always let my daughter use a blanket. She's always been monitored while using it. So my personal opinion is use it with supervision or as others have suggested use as wall decoration.
  • I hung it on the back of our glider and used it for tummy time or to snuggle when nursing/reading stories. DS is 18mos now so I use it in his bed (we just had to convert to the toddler bed because he kept getting out of the crib). I'm going to continue to use it on his bed once he moves out of the nursery into his big boy room after baby comes.
  • We've used it on the floor and for me as a throw sitting in the rocker. My DS is 2.5 and still just sleeps with an A&A blanket (he moves around his crib a lot and doesn't cover himself anyway), so I'm still using it when I sit in the rocker reading books and such. With that said, I didn't get one for this baby.

  • I think I may use it when nursing to keep my legs warm and/or on the floor when baby is on it. I'll hand it over the glider or crib bar when baby isn't in there just for show.
  • I'm a FTM as well, and my mom made a quilt for baby. I'm planning on having it folded over the to of the rocker until she is big enough to use it.
  • I never bought a bedding set that came with a comforter, but my MIL crocheted an afghan to match DS's nursery, and is doing the same for DD. I hung it on the side of the crib as a decoration, and this is what I'll do again.

    When DS got a little older, I started using the afghan in his crib, being that it has lots of holes so it's breathable. If it were a comforter (and I used the same sheets), I'd use it with his toddler bed. Instead he has a new afghan crocheted by my MIL thats matches his current colors.

  • Use it as a nice blanket when you're snuggling on the couch or in the rocker. Definitely save it for when they transition to a toddler bed. We used ours with our first once he was able to use a blanket. May stay in the closet for a while at first though (;
  • Thanks ladies, for all the great advice! Knew I could count on you :) I think we'll keep it out, maybe drape it over the rocker and use as a blanket to snuggle with. :)
  • I didn't end up going with a set either. MIL made several quilts and we're draping them over the lounger and switching them out for decoration. Later we'll use them for tummy time, and maybe even for the toddler bed.
  • Drape it over the rocking chair or glider if you have one to tie together the room.
