Work out routines for someone who hasn't for awhile

So I searched the other threads and I couldn't find this exact answer so please excuse another workout post!

I used to work out a lot but I haven't for a very long time. I really want to do something during my pregnancy to try and stay on the healthier side. Is there workout routines/videos that you can recommend that would be say for a basically a beginner pregnant woman :).

Re: Work out routines for someone who hasn't for awhile

  • My understanding is that you aren't supposed to start anything new when you are pregnant, so check with your OB first. I exercise a lot (and have for awhile). I have cut out a lot of the bouncy, impact workouts and stuck mostly to barre and yoga. Partially because I feel sick really easily if I move around too much, too fast.

I do spin from time to time- I used to do it every week, but I've cut back. Again, I get queasy really easily. Hopefully my 2nd tri will be nicer to me and I will be able to pick up the pace. But in the meantime, I am doing what I can!

  • Once you check with your OB... My best recommendation would be to search for prenatal yoga workouts on YouTube

  • Your OB will likely recommend some stretches and exercises for different stages of pregnancy to help with flexibility and back/core strength. That said, you could also talk to them about "soft" exercises like yoga or walking/jogging. My clinic offers aquatic exercise classes and PT/Massage Therapy for their expectant moms.

I was very active before this pregnancy and was running, doing yoga and bootcamp. I had a couple of losses and so I really toned down my activity level after ovulation and then when i got a positive test i continued to keep low activiy levels. I had been walking and doing light weights until nausea kicked in. My dr should give me the ok to do a little more after my 12 week apt. She said walking would be best and that I could do yoga and light exercise. I have 2 dvd's waiting :) 1 prenatal yoga and 1 prenatal barre. I think if your dr ok's it you could ease back in with walking and yoga!
