sporatic spray tan

My good friend google has mixed reviews so I'm posing an opinion question to you ladies because there doesn't really seem to be any scientific research,

How do you feel about a spray tan while pregnant? I'm going to two weddings this weekend and one I know is going to be photographed a lot. I feel like it would help me feel a little better about my increasingly changing body. I used to have a membership type thing and went 2x a week or so but I canceled it because that much unknown fumes seemed like a bad idea, but I'm thinking once isn't going to be much of an issue for me.

Re: sporatic spray tan

  • I got one a couple months back for a bachelorette party and got a couple when I was pregnant with my son - they swear it's just sugar + water, or all natural ingredients but they still told me I should consult my Dr. I think once will be completely fine but I definitely wouldn't be doing them regularly since there is very little info. out there right now, that's just my opinion though!

  • As an Esthetician i've seen pregnant women come into the spa for tanning but honestly I haven't researched the dangers. I'm sure as long as the tanning prof takes appropriate precautions and it can be ventilated and you're not breathing the fumes in you should be fine
  • I have spray tanned regularly once/week for about 5 years. I asked my doctor about it at my first appointment and she said spray tanning is totally ok, so I've continued to go about once/week. It helps me feel better about my body insecurities as well as everything keeps changing!
  • Thanks ladies!

  • I wouldn't do it regularly but I don't see any problem with it.

Ask your doctor for their input or opinion on the topic and I would just go from there.

I worked at a tanning salon and we allowed pregnant women to get spray tans- they were just not allowed anywhere near the beds
  • I get a spray tan once a week or so in the summer, and my doctor has no issue with it. I hold my breath as much as I can so I'm not breathing it in. The girls who work at the spa I go to have had 3 kids between them in the last 2 years, and their doctors had no issue with them continuing to spray clients throughout their pregnancies.
  • I say do it. Maybe you can get a professional spray tan instead of going in the booth... the booth always feels so suffocating to me (too many fumes)?

If you spray tan while pregnant you are obviously abusing the child in the womb and are unfit.

Does that help to even things out?!
    :D

But honestly have fun at the weddings - I don't know the salons in our area that well but the one in Niskayuna is really good.

hahahahaha. well according to goggle that was a lot of people's responses. I've always just gone to zoom tan. I'm not the type to stand there almost naked for someone to make sure I'm even. They are well ventilated and I can just run in and out :)

  • I've read a few articles back in July about it bc I wanted one before going to the beach. I couldn't find any real scientific evidence behind spray tanning harming the child. But I did read a few that said in the first trimester to stear clear from it to be on the safe side. So I opted to go pale to the beach. I am going to Disney world in October and was thinking of getting one before going bc I will be well into my second tri. I'm going to ask my doctor first. BTW I always have gone to Hollywood tans and if I get one in October I will most likely go to a spa that advertises organic and someone who actually sprays you. Bc I know those booths at Hollywood are tough sometimes when breathing.
  • I asked my doctor and she advised against it. She said there's no evidence either way. Since she can't definitely say it won't harm my baby because they just haven't studied it, I decided to forget about it.
  • I believe i read that itd be safer for a person doing it, instead of the automatic machine thats at suntancity if you have one on those since they can control where they spray and be more careful around your face.
