35 weeks decreased movement but NST "good"?

So I've been getting twice-a-week NST's for GD. At every NST baby has been crazy active and they have been great. However yesterday I noticed baby not moving as much throughout the day but I was scheduled for my NST later that afternoon so I didn't think to much of it. When I got to my appointment they told me my doctor was in L&D so a nurse would be looking at my results. For the first 20 min the baby didn't move at all which was not normal for me. The nurse came in and was very casual about and said drink some cold water and see what happens. So I drank the water and another 15 min goes by and nothing. Finally the nurse comes in and tells me I would have to go to the hospital. However, as soon as she said that the the baby moved a couple of times. She said that thats all she needed to see and sent me home.

Today, baby isn't moving as much (hardly at all) like yesterday but my next NST isn't until tuesday. Im not really sure what to do? my doctor told me that an NST would show a problem if there was one. Should I call and see if my doctor is in today? should I wait till later and see if she picks up movement? Im 35 weeks. I tend to be anxious person (my doctor is well aware) so Im not sure if Im letting my anxiety get the best of me.

  • Decreased movement later in your pregnancy is pretty normal. As your baby gets bigger they have less room to move and tend to not move as frequently. As long as you get some movement you should be good but if you go an extended period of time with no movement then I would do what your nurse recommended with the water. If still nothing then give a call to your Dr or go to L&D.

  • I'm experiencing the exact same thing today. I'm 35w5d, my little guy normally goes apesh*t after every meal, including yesterday. Well, I didn't feel his normal wake up during my shower, so I had a sugary breakfast (read Snickers and coffee) to kickstart him. Nothing but a few little nudges. I called and they said they "don't want to play around" with that and have me coming in for an ultrasound today. If I were you, especially in a high risk pregnancy such as you and I are, I would call. Err on the side of caution!
  • Maybe wait til later today and if still none call doc. That's what I would prob do.
  • I would call and see if they want to do an ultrasound. With being 35 weeks and having GD the risk goes up the further along you are. It's worth going in and finding out everything is ok instead of waiting too long and something bad happens. (I'm high risk due to being diabetic too so just going off what my doctors have said)
  • Since your doctor wasn't there and the nurse didn't necessarily know what "normal" was like I would definitely call your doctor, explain what happened, and make sure they are okay with the results of the NST. It is probably fine, but I would notify my doctor if I was in your position.

Sorry. It was all I could think of to wake him up.

Soon, though, you will be able to eat freely!
  • @KittenMittens8 have you called yet?

I haven't yet. I took a nap and when I woke up i felt her moving a little more. She is the most active in the evening so I am going to hold out till then. If he's not moving as much then, I will call the after hours doctor.
  • The baby should not be moving the same bit you should still see normal wake and sleep patterns. I'd call doc and double check.
  • I know that I am glad I called. I got peace of mind, and the Dr essentially told me that baby is completely out of room, and not to expect a ton of movement from here on. Of course, he encouraged me to trust my gut and visit him or the L&D unit if I am ever concerned.
