2nd Time Moms- When did your older kids outgrow a stroller?

I'm probably getting a little ahead of myself.  I can't help it.  I'm an over planner.  I have a stroller that converts to a double.  My daughter will be almost 2.5 when I'm due.  Do you think I'll need to convert to a double stroller (still have to buy attachments)?  I'm not sure when kids stop strolling.

  • I know kids that are in strollers til they are four. My son is 2.5 now. He never rode in strollers much. I babywore and didn't even own a stroller until he was over 1. But he difinitely hasn't outgrown it! I would definitely convert it. I mean can you imagine having the baby in the stroller and having to constantly chase and keep track of your 2.5 year old? Yikes! My son still gets really tired on walks or uncooperative so somewhere for him to rest/strap the crazy down is helpful. :)

  • My daughter will also be almost 2.5 in May, and I plan on buying a double stroller (mine doesn't convert--mind blown, I didn't know that was a thing?!?). Even if my daughter can walk all on her own at that point, I can see the value in being able to restrain her when we are out and about. ;)

Once my DDs hit 3, they wanted to walk instead of be in the stroller. That being said, when I'm on my work out walks, they both fit in the stroller. My DDs are 4 1/2 and 3; but they are pretty small for their age.
  • My twins haven't wanted to be in their stroller for months and they are two.

  • DS1 was a little over 2.5 years when DS2 was born. I never bought the double stroller and it was fine. I did buy a wagon that we use now for walks. DS2 will be just shy of 2 years when this LO is born. I am pretty sure we will be going the double stroller route this time.

  • My daughter hasn't really been in her stroller since she turned 3. She simply just loves to walk (and run!) everywhere. It probably just depends on your kid. You could always just plan on wearing your newborn for a little bit, I know I plan to. <3

  • I'm planning to get a sit/stand stroller for us.  #1 will be just barely 4 when #2 arrives, but I feel like he'll still want to ride sometimes.  I'm going to try to find a good used one on Craigslist or consignment sales.
  • DS will have turned 2 just two months prior when #2 is born, plus we walk everywhere here, so I'm planning on buying the new version of our stroller (Uppababy Vista) that has a better rumble seat that fully reclines than my model. Even with baby wearing I know I'll need a stackable double, most of the double strollers are too wide for most places in my neighborhood.
  • My almost 3.5 year old hasn't gone in a stroller for every day outings in almost a year. She likes walking next to me/us. She will sit in the stroller for runs or long walks though.

I don't plan on getting a double, as she'll be 2 weeks shy of 4 at my edd.

  • Thanks for the replies ladies! I think I'll convert it then. The weather will be nice around here in early May so we will go on walks a lot. Looks like I'll need it.

I have the Britax B-Ready. Awesome stroller and converts to an inline double.

  • My DD1 who is 4 will still get in to the stroller for walks. We also have a wagon but I much prefer the double stroller!
  • I bought a double when I was pregnant with #3. #2 was three and she used it until she was four. #4 is almost four and he still rides in it. I don't think for much longer though, he's very busy and likes to run! I was gifted a nearly brand new convert single last year and I'll retire the double for this baby. It's huge.

  • I own 3 strollers. An awesome jogging one- my husband used that. I had some fancy other type that's been in the garage for a couple years now. I used it about 5 times.

On the other hand, I used ring slings and wraps daily and carried the heck out of my kid. I didn't plan it that way at all, it's just how it worked out.

For my mom friends that used strollers more many were ditching them around 2-3. By 3 the only ones really using them were ones that had another baby and they had upgraded to a double.

  • So, stupid question... what are strollers even for? I'm trying to figure out if I even need one. If I'm at the store, baby's in the cart. I can't imagine being anywhere else that I'm walking around. (I do walk all over campus at work, but wouldn't have a baby with me there.)

  • Diaper bag if you don't want to use a cross-body or backpack style bag. Perhaps a bag of groceries too? I used a cross-body bag and kept extra clothes and whatnot in the car. Some babies hate being worn or they require lots of extra stuff to be hauled around. It really depends on mom and baby dynamics.

  • Strollers are mostly for convenience/ease. A baby can't sit in the cart for significant periods of time until around 6 months. DD was always in a carrier or car seat until she could sit in the cart. But we would use the stroller for the mall, the zoo, long runs, basically every day situations in which she didn't want to be worn.

  • Anywhere that you go that doesn't have a cart and that you don't want to wear baby. And if your kiddo falls asleep in their infant car seat, you don't want to wake the beast and you BEST not be one of those asshat moms that puts the carrier on top of the cart. We used our stroller all the time when we went shopping or went on long walks, especially when it was cold, I could bundle her up in the stroller.

  • My son just turned 3 and he is still in a stroller for outings where there isn't a cart like the park or the zoo. It's more a safety issue for me because honestly we are still working on listening so having him contained in a parking lot is much better. I don't even strap him in anymore though so that way he is able to get out if/when I allow him to (if that makes sense).
