Swing

How many times per day does your LO use a swing? How long are your swing sessions?

Re: Swing

  • 10-20 minutes awake. If he falls asleep a few hours! The other night he slept in his swing from nine till almost 2 in the morning! I woke him up at that point!
  • Loading the player...
  • My LO is starting to really like her swing. As long as she is fed, changed and burped she will take a nice nap in it!
  • What kind of swing do you guys have?
  • We have the Snug-a-Puppy swing. Usually get one good 2 hour nap in it in the afternoon. I also try to stick him in it for 20 min in the AM so I can eat breakfast.
  • Not at all, he hates it... bought a bouncer, he'll tolerate it for 10ish minutes.
  • Our daycare has one that swings side to side vs. front to back. I put LO in it this morning and he settled right in--the daycare ladies said it's a favorite for a lot of their babies!
LO will tolerate his swing almost long enough for me to shower!
  • This has been on my mind a lot I read it wasn't good that they slept in it and they should be limited to one hour a day... My LO loves her swing and it's so difficult to get her out of the routine of staying in there too long I've had to put her in there for a few hours durning the night/ early am to get her to sleep I get so anxious leaving her in there
  • @klirwin82 & @LibbyC730 we have the snuggapuppy swing too & it swings side to side like a cradle, but can then switch to front to back
  • I have the fisher price 4 in one glider. My LO will take naps during the day, and it's the only way I get her to sleep and stay asleep at night. She's in it for about half an hour then I transfer her to the bassinet. A few times I've left her in the swing in the morning if she keeps waking up when i move her. I was concerned about what I read, however a lot of the swings are not like the traditional swings anymore. They're more like cradles, and have softer movements. I figure she's not going to love it forever so I better get my use and money's worth out of it. It's also a sanity saver.
  • Why aren't they supposed to be in them that long? Just curious

That was one thing I didn't register for..instead I got a mamaroo which my lo likes but will not sleep in. My parents happened to have a swing from when my nephew was little and we just got it out the other day. Hallelujah! She will only sleep
About 45 min in it but I figure that's 45 more minutes than I've had to do anything while she sleeps..she won't sleep during the day unless she's held
  • We got the mamaroo too, but she doesn't sleep in it or really seem to like it much! She only really sleeps while being held during the day too
  • Alas, advised not to sleep in it because of potential airway restriction when they're still developing head control.

We just got out of an overnight hospital stay monitoring LO after we found her struggling to breathe while napping in her beloved swing. Called 911 when she lost color.

All clear but she won't be napping there now, or car seat for extended periods when not absolutely necessary (bummer).
  • Scary! Glad to hear you're all back home! @jojoindeed

^^this. I have a different swing, but my LO tolerates it just long enough for me to eat some oatmeal in the morning (made in batches and microwaves during the week). And he will nap in it in the afternoon-after he falls asleep and I put him there-but it does help keep him asleep. I do have one that goes side to side. I'm finding lately he enjoys the bouncer too. Problem is I have to bounce it the whole time he's in it. It only vibrates and he likes the bounce much better.
  • We use our swings all day long. But I have twins and have to set you down all the time to pick up the other one. I can't use bouncers because they sit on the floor and I don't trust my toddler around them. My swings are up higher and she can't get the babies as easily or try to sit on them.
  • We have the 4 in 1 Graco glider and my LO takes quick naps during the morning and afternoon in it. We also remove the bouncy seat part and recline it and hes been sleeping in that at night next to our bed ( hes almost 6 weeks). He hates the co sleeper and crib bc he refuses to sleep flat im assuming bc of his startle reflex which wakes him up all the time. I mentioned it to the doc about him sleeping in swing/ bouncy seat and he said it was fine.
