Crib/Bassinet Combo

Has anyone come across a crib with some kind of bassinet attachment or a crib/bassinet combo? I know pack n plays have that type of setup but I want a real crib since I have to sacrifice so much with us living in a fifth wheel (no nursery, no glider). I found one that use to be on Amazon but I can't find it available for purchase. Any leads would be helpful, thanks!

Re: Crib/Bassinet Combo

  • At least in my recent experience I haven't seen any because you can use a crib for a newborn, it doesn't need to be a bassinet per-say. My MIL is great at this stuff so I will ask her to look and get back to you! good luck!

Thank you! I've read in a couple places that using a bassinet early on is a good idea because the baby might enjoy the smaller space more. I just want to avoid buying both a bassinet and crib if possible. Thanks again.
  • I would just raise the crib to the highest level and use it as a regular crib.
That is plenty high for a newborn.

If you end up finding one and If it doesn't come with the crib I would just make sure to do lots of research to make sure there aren't bad reviews or anything that's close to recalls for them. I've never seen one so I'm not sure of the specs on them.

I just get nervous adding extra stuff to a crib. Cribs have standards and guidelines for safety so sort of like a car seat I worry about extras

Maybe check out the summer infant "by your side sleeper". It's a little cozy nest made for co sleeping in mom's bed (which I'm not interested in doing) but you could use it in the crib to create a smaller more confined space for a newborn. Also, swaddling helps create that snuggled feeling of being in a smaller space while still keeping them in a safe sleep environment.
  • I actually have a crib and bassinet. I used both for all my kids. But I have never personally seen a bassinet/crib combo. I like the bassinet for when I'm in a different part of the house (downstairs) etc. I can just wheel it out of the room. I've also used it when we went to visit family and it just folds up so easily.
  • According to MIL the style you posted is s thing of the past. They make these now

That convert but from what she sent me they look a tad pricy. Maybe you can find one cheaper. They start off a bassinet and can be converted to crib size as they grow. But this seems to be the new format

I don't know if it's recommended, but perhaps you could use a co sleeper or travel bassinet and put it in the crib to give baby the bassinet feel without adding items that take up extra space.

Not sure if this helps because I'm a FTM but we got both a pack n play and a crib passed down to us.  The pack n play didn't have the sleeper insert so we settled on getting this.  We can take the pack n play with us and put the sleeper in there, or we are going to put it in the crib for when she sleeps in there.

  • Thank you @Zepplin1218 I will definitely look into that style.

I live in a fifth wheel so space in very tight but I am sure we will figure out something that works great for us. Thanks for all of the input, it is very much appreciated.
  • I plan to use a cardboard box, Norwegian style. Low cost and practical :-) Google Norwegian baby boxes for cute articles.
  • What about getting a fisher price rock and play? We used that with DS for the first several weeks before him into his crib. I liked that you could fold it up against the wall when you weren't using it so it didn't take up space. It also helped with his reflux keeping him propped up just enough. I kept it by my bed at night initially so I didn't have to get up and walk far. I had a bad fourth degree tear from delivery. And during the day I put it in the living room.

  • What about a mini crib?
  • We had a PnP w/bassinet, MamaRoo, and the crib. DS was happy in the bassinet for about two weeks. Then we tried the PnP itself. He was fine with that for about a week. Then we did the MamaRoo (bad reflux) and he was happy in there until we put him in the crib. All that to say, it's hard to know what baby will like. We still use our PnP when we travel so it was worth it for us.
