Mamas of preemies,
Did you notice your LO was late on meeting milestones? Lucy is 7 weeks old and should be meeting some of her 2 month milestones and she isn't quite there yet. She has met some and others she isn't getting. Although her gestational age is 7 weeks, she was born at 37 weeks so her adjusted age is only 4 weeks. I know this explains the delay, but I'm wondering if other mamas have experienced this.
Re: Gestational age vs. Adjusted age
Generally dr's and specialists use adjusted ages until age 2 because the amount of time it takes to "catch up" varies.
Also most milestones are given a range and anything within that range is developmentally appropriate. Walking, for example, is something like 8-18 months and anything within that range is normal. The kid that walks at 8 months isn't any better or more advanced than the kid who walks at 18months- both kids are normal. It tempting to get fixated on the lower age range and want you kid to demonstrate each skill right away but each child develops at their own rate.
With all that said, your smart to be aware of milestones and share your concerns with your dr. But do your best to try not to compare your baby to others- you'll just drive yourself crazy!
