Transverse Turning Ideas

At our last appointment last week, our midwife did a bedside ultrasound and confirmed that our baby is indeed breech. I will be 35 weeks on Friday.  Just this morning, she has turned to the transverse position and it is quite uncomfortable.  It is causing me a lot of cramping and back pain - is this normal?  Anyways, I have been doing the different exercises described at spinningbabies.com and am also going to a chiropractor tomorrow to start the Webster method.  But I have found that I am always so tense and as soon as I let myself relax and relax all of the muscles in my stomach and pelvis, she moves instantly.  Has anyone had any luck with relaxation and maybe having better posture?  I sit in an office all day and find that when I lean forward and relax everything, she responds well to that also.

This has a lot of questions/ideas thrown around lol but my mind is pretty frantic these days.  Any advice is appreciated :)

Thanks!

Re: Transverse Turning Ideas

  • I have no idea if it was what actually got her to move to the head down position, but I used headphones and played music at the bottom of my belly every night, and sure enough I went back yesterday and she was head down. Can't hurt to try.

Can you sit on an exercise ball? You want to have your knees below your hips so a big ball would be necessary. You could try natural calm supplement as it helps with muscle tension, swimming can help, and keep up what you're doing. Just constantly adjust your body, you want your belly to be a hammock for the baby, so untuck your hips and let it all hang out.
  • I just went to the chiropractor yesterday to start the Webster technique for the same reason. My chiropractor put lots of pressure on my stomach to help relax the muscles and showed me a bunch of stretches to try and help the process. I'm a little sore today, but I can honestly feel that the baby has moved a bit! I'm going back on Friday and then twice next week.

  • Our birth instructor told us that using accupincture or accupressure has been shown to help baby move. Just make sure you work with someone who is experienced and licensed.
  • Even try walking for a few minutes! I go on a walk almost every day and within a few minutes baby drops and puts pressure on my bladder. Not super comfy but reassuring :)
  • Thanks ladies, all useful advice :) My husband mentioned that he wanted to start reading to her while shes in my belly so she finds comfort and is familiar with his voice, so maybe that will do the same as music.  My husband surprised the hell out of me by saying that.  He is NOT the type of guy to say or do sentimental things like that.  He went out with a few people from his work and they have little girls and that was what they talked about.  I like these new work friends and he should hang out with them more often ;)

@jennkempen have you tried prenatal yoga? i am an anxious person by nature and carry a lot of physical tension but my yoga class helps me relax so much. even if you don't want to join a class, there are a couple of poses that you can do on your own that are super easy to learn and supposedly help the baby move into the correct position: cat-cow pose and child's pose.
i am utterly obsessed with cat-cow and do it every day.

That's sweet. You can lay on left side with your belly hanging over (again, like a hammock for the baby) and rub your belly with oil or lotion while he reads too. That way your muscles are getting some love and the baby is being stimulated.
  • My little boy was transverse. I took Pulsatilla and saw an acupuncturist twice...he is now in position.
  • I went in for my 35 weeks checkup and my lil girl is in transverse position too. :( Doc said we will do another sono at 37 weeks and if she is not turned then we will have a c section at 39 weeks. :( I am hoping she will turn into the right position....
