Cheers! (Mocktails and Drinky Drinks)

Anyone else missing their wine, beer, and other alcoholic beverages?

I decided I'd go for my first mocktail tonight (pic attached). It's pretty darn tasty!

I tried non-alcoholic beer the other night and was NOT impressed.

What are your go to mocktails and drink replacements?

Also, don't forget it's OK to keep your caffeine intake at 200mg a day. I've seen some people mention cutting down to basically none, and of course you can if that's your choice, but I don't want anyone to feel like they HAVE to deprive themselves. I've switched to decaf coffee so I can spare a little caffeine if I want a little tea or soda. Of course it's still mostly water I'm drinking!

  • I'm not a big alcohol drinker, but I love anything fruity as a mocktail :)

  • DH and I rarely drink pop, so we are addicted to La Croix sparkling water. There are a TON of mock tail ideas on their website, but this one looked so tasty. https://www.lacroixwater.com/recipes/skinny-mojito-mocktail/

  • I've got two wedding this month and need to come up with some drinks that look real. My friends are going to catch on real fast if I am not drinking. I don't want to tell them just yet.
Side note: I have stopped with caffeine completely but don't know that I will keep that up the entire pregnancy.
  • Yes! Diet pop is so disgusting to me now. If I drink any pop, it's non-diet (root beer or Dr. Pepper). We love La Croix! My fav is the orange or lime.

  • Ummm yeah there's absolutely no way I'm sticking to under 200mg of caffeine a day throughout this entire pregnancy. It's a goal for sure, but with a 6 month old to take care of the fatigue is REAL.

Just remember that like alcohol (lots of pregnant moms indulge in a small glass here and there), caffeine intake is a personal choice.
  • I am currently drinking la croix regular seltzer with some cranberry juice! Delish. I was thinking about trying non alcoholic beer, sad to hear it wasn't good, was it o douls? I dunno of any others!

  • @lalala2004! I'm curious which NA beer you tried.  Have you tried Becks NA or Kaliber (made by Guiness).  I found them both to be pretty decent.

My favorite mocktail is actually a fake "cosmo"...Lemon flavored seltzer, cranberry juice, fresh lime juice, and a splash of simple syrup.  Shake, and serve in a martini glass, garnish with a lime.   Very satisfying!

  • Sounds like I need to find some La Croix.  :)   I also will probably be dipping into my Maine Root Ginger Beer stash - I always keep tons on hand for Moscow Mules, but since my vodka days are on pause...bring on the ginger and lime!  :D

  • I keep forgetting that I can't drink.  Sigh.

    This.

I'm a drink a day/every other day kind of person when I'm not pregnant.

I am too lazy to make myself mock tails...but would totally love them. I should ask DH to make them for me when we watch football.

Everything Maine Root makes is amazing!

It was Texas Select. Thanks for the suggestions, I figured there had to be some higher quality ones out there.

@kmalls Of course it's a personal decision, just like anything, but keeping it under 200mg is the general recommendation, and it is based on evidence. I'm in "play it safe" camp in general for the things that have solid scientific backing as a reason to limit or avoid. (I'm not to worried about lunch meat, for instance, although I usually heat it up).

Here's a link for anyone who wants to know the reasons why limiting caffeine is recommended and lists the studies: Clicky

I've found the decaf coffee actually has the same effect on me as regular. It's probably a psychological thing. (To be honest, my main reason for drinking it is to stay regular, and decaf does that, too)

  • ...and I'd be in the "don't be stupid but do what's best for you" camp. So there's that.
