Medela Symphony Pump Rental

I used this pump for 3 days in the hospital when DS was jaundice and i loved it.

I have the lansinoh signature pro at home and while it was a cost effective pump..it just doesn't cut it for me. Due to latch issues and other reasons im seriously considering EPing until DS starts on solid foods. IMO the lansinoh pump does the job ok if you only pump occasionally but i need something more equipped for heavy usage for the next 3 months or so.

Has anyome ever rented this pump? I know BRU rents it for $60 a month but i dont know if i should just buy a medela instead (insurance doesn't cover) if i only plan on using it for a few months before switching to formula once I go back to work. Thoughts welcome!

Re: Medela Symphony Pump Rental

  • My hospital rents it out for about the same price. I'm using it for the first 2 weeks. I bought a spectra s2 and it seems comparable

  • I'm renting a medela symphony. My insurance covers 6 months rental rather than a pump purchase. I had to buy the accessory pack which comes with the tubing, ect and that was 50.00. I am EPing because DD has turned out to be a poor nurser and she is so much happier and does so much better on the bottle. I've been told that if you are going to EP, you want a hospital grade pump because they are better at keeping your supply going. The lactation consultants at the hospital said that the Medela Symphony is their favorite pump.
  • I am EPing for my twins and am renting the medela symphony from a Wegmans Pharmacy for $50/mo.
  • I used one a lot in the hospital (for both my births) and loved it too but my medela pump in style got as much BM out as the hospital pump it just isn't as smooth/gentle. Last I checked, on Amazon my exact pump was $120 so if you only need it 2 months the cost is about even but if you need it longer it would be cheaper to buy a nice medela.

  • I'm renting a pump right now also and I think it really saved my supply. I have the PISA from my insurance but like PP said it can't keep up with pumping 10-12 times a day. I reserved this pump for two weeks and I am looking into renting for at least another month.

  • I had a medela pump in style but rented the symphony for a month. It was a good pump.

  • I love the symphony! It cost me $75 at BRU for one month. My Medela Pump and Style barely works so I'm thinking about renting the symphony again.
  • I rented the symphony for a month from my hospital. I absolutely loved it! It was much quieter than my pump in style, which was a bonus for my husband in the middle of the night!
  • I rented the symphony from my hospital as well. Though it was only $35 a month in 2012. It isn't very portable, but as you know it's a great pump and definitely helped build my supply up. If I had to EP again I'd rent it in a heartbeat.
