Gestational age vs. Adjusted age

Mamas of preemies,

Did you notice your LO was late on meeting milestones? Lucy is 7 weeks old and should be meeting some of her 2 month milestones and she isn't quite there yet. She has met some and others she isn't getting. Although her gestational age is 7 weeks, she was born at 37 weeks so her adjusted age is only 4 weeks. I know this explains the delay, but I'm wondering if other mamas have experienced this.

I just asked LO's pediatrician this exact thing today lol. She said it's completely normal not to be doing everything on time especially since Kinsley was born at 31 weeks. So she is 10 weeks her adjusted age is 2 weeks. I can't get her to smile or giggle but she loves to smile and giggle in her sleep lol. I guess she's playing hard to get with mommy. But my doctor said eventually she should catch up and not be behind. She has also more then doubled her birth weight and is at 9lbs 11oz today!! Which makes me so happy. So I'm not really concerned yet because she seems to be making great progress everyday.
  • At my appt today I asked about that, my ped. Said not to worry to much right now in regards to milestones. Even Full term babies may be a little early/delayed it varies per baby. I would just suggest keeping an eye on it and as more time goes by if she hasnt. Caught up, mention it to your Dr.

  • LOs were born at 37 weeks and our pedi said we wouldn't be using an adjusted age. I'm not sure if that's because they're twins and 37 is technically full term for them? But like @buckleyk said, all babies are so different, try not to worry. And OMG please no walking at 8 months!!!
