Question for vag birth....

I failed to ask if the stitches dissolve on their own or if they get removed when I go for the 6 week post pardum visit to my Dr.

Or basically what I'm asking you ladies is... What happens with the stitches?

I had a 1st degree tear & I was told my stitches will dissolve.

Mine were dissolvable. I know she will check on them when I go in for my 6 week appointment. If you're unsure I'm sure you can call the doctors office. Or it might be in your discharge papers.

Yea, mine's only 1st degree too. I'm hoping they're dissolvable

Mine dissolved after about two weeks. I'm so thankful that they didn't have to be removed, that would be just awful!!

Mine are dissolvable (2nd degree) I can't imagine they would use classic stitches anymore. My stitches are actually neon purple. I know you all are jealous 8->

With that said if they were not dissolvable you would prob have to follow up earlier as your skin would prob start to heal and grow over the thread making getting them out counter productive.

Mine are dissolvable. I never asked, but I was never told I would have them removed. I never had anything removed with DS1 either.

Mine dissolved with my first and that seems like standard practice. I'd call your dr just to clarify.

I was told mine are the dissolving kind. But ive yet to see them! I had tearing but it was internal not on the perineum.

I almost got a mirror yesterday to have a look but then chickened out last second. Ignorance is bliss right? Btw, they are dissolvable, they don't use the other kind anymore.

Okay this may be a dumb question but how do you know what degree tear you have? I'm guessing my doctor should have told me?

Also, this may be TMI but I tore sideways (like my inner labia) and I'm absolutely terrified to check on the status of my stitches! 5+ weeks out and still don't want to look. X_X

My doc told me they're dissolvable stitches. I was one of the lucky ones and I tore inside and not outside. So I'm very uncomfortable. Still got a little ways to go seeing as he was just born on Tuesday. So I gotta hang in there.

@mjpensyl my midwife told me what kind of tear I had. You could call and ask.
