Scheduled cesarean 2 days before due date, need advise

Can anyone walk me through their experience with an emergency cesarean vs a scheduled cesarean? I surely don't want to go in any earlier but I feel it's also so close to my DD that the chance of going into labor in advance naturally is large.

My ultrasound said his gestational age/growth is a week prior to my scheduled cesarean and DD just 2 days after, so to be safe they scheduled me closer to the DD.

I just want to hear from true experience what to expect, in case. Thank you in advance!

Re: Scheduled cesarean 2 days before due date, need advise

  • With my first I couldn't dilate past a 4 so they did an emergency c-section. They had already had the epidural in so they just wheeled me back into the OR and did what they they needed to do, I was in recovery for about an hour. I have a scheduled c-section this time and I have to go in 2 hours before the scheduled time. They will check all of my vitals, make sure I'm hydrated and my iron is good and then they will take me back and do the c-section. As far as recovery time I'm not too sure but they told me it would be able the same.
    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you. They gave me paperwork about a 2 hour prep period and that's why I'm interested in hearing how going in if my water breaks randomly, will vary.
  • My first I showed up 2 hours before hand and it went by so fast. They took labs and hooked me up with fluids and before I knew it, it was go time. I was so nervous. A lot of pulling and tugging. I threw up a lot but that's just me. This time I have my pre op labs and appt tomorrow. I still have to show up 2 hours before hand. My doc said that if I were to go into natural labor, just to head in and they will assemble the team. And I also will tell them how sick I got so I hope to get zofran in me ASAP. It's a very big deal surgery. It's all very overwhelming but the nurses and doctors are there to make you comfortable and don't be afraid to say, I'm scared. It's ok to be scared. But hearing that pissed off little war cry makes it all worth it. It went pretty smoothly. I lost blood but other than that, my recovery was easy and off pain meds in a week or so. And make sure your husband eats or drinks something. Yea. They almost had to pick my H off the floor.

  • This is the exact scenario I was curious about. Awesome! I'm showing my husband so he can rest easy too.

Thank you both so much for your experiences!
  • This will be my 3rd c-section. I'm due on 09/18 and scheduled on 09/15. I'm also nervous about going into labor before my scheduled section! But I also know that scheduled versus emergency procedures will go about the same.
Here's to hoping we both make it to our scheduled days!!
  • With my first I was 41 + 3 days so I got induced but after a day of labor I wasn't progressing and his heartbeat was slowing so it was emergency CS for me. I was always opposed to it but it was the best thing at the time and it turned out great. Sadly I found out the hard way that I was allergic to morphine so that night was terrible but he was out safely and my recovery was as expected. I now have a scheduled CS for this one so we will meet her on Sept 21 and I am confident this time around that it will be less stressful since I know what I am going in to.

    I wish you luck!
