Some Serious Discomfort

I am 16w1d and I already have quite the belly. I am fairly certain most of it is fat and bloat but either way it is very round. For the last four days or so I have had none stop stretching pains along the sides of my stomach. It feels like the skin is being pulled so tight causing discomfort. I find myself rubbing myself from my ribs down to my hips. I figured this was RLP but when I try to read about how common it is to have RLP pain/discomfort be so consistent for so many days it just seems like RLP is referring much more to pain that is caused from your uterus stretching and not your stomach/skin. I do have those typical sharp pains in my pelvis that match up perfectly to what is described at RLP so I feel like this other stretching pain is not the same thing.

So my question is, is anyone else who is already "showing" having pain from their stomachs growing?

Re: Some Serious Discomfort

  • It's completely normal and will probably continue for the rest of your pregnancy. I would continuously apply lotion, oils, etc. all day long to keep the skin pliable while your belly is growing.

  • This is normal. I've had pain from stretching last week. This week my skin has been super itchy due to my skin stretching. I'm rubbing myself daily with moisturizer everywhere! I use coco butter cream. It smells like chocolate. Anyways I woke up in the middle of the night on Monday with the itchys I had to lube up and go back to bed.
  • I have the stretching pain too but across my belly. I am 15 weeks and my dr said it was normal. It can be really painful, but he said that will happen for a little while.
  • Thanks ladies. I am going to try to be more consistent with putting on lotion and see if that helps any. I just wish Tylenol actually did something to ease pain.. it is pretty useless.
  • I've been having that on my sides. And I'm starting to get itchy. I haven't been applying lotion so I'm going to start doing that. I'm only 16 1/2 weeks and it's nuts to think about how much more I'm going to stretch! You're right about Tylenol - useless! I miss Motrin!

  • Trader Joe's has a great coconut body butter that I've recently begun using.  I would suggest it if you have a TJ's in your area.  It's inexpensive and the second ingredient is coconut oil.  Some of the ones at the drugstore don't list coconut oil till way further down on the ingredient list, which is a red flag for me.
