And if so at what point? I'm 38w4d and OB said induction at 39+4 but high risk wants sooner so may be any day. Curious about anyone else and if they are what the reasoning was. How was it explained to you?
Nope I get to have my birth as planned at a birth center, numbers are easily controlled with diet. Congrats on your beautiful baby boy! Can't wait to meet mine in around 2 weeks
So far I am diet controlled. The doctors have me scheduled for an induction at exactly 40 weeks (but seem to be open to me going longer if at 39 week appointment I'm "all closed up" and not ready"). Not sure what will actually happen
I'm due Sept 10th, being induced tomorrow @ 39 weeks. I am on nightly insulin. I was told it's the optimum time for birth with GD as the placenta ages and the longer you wait it increases the chance of stillbirth or other complications for me and baby. I very much trust my Dr even though it's scary to hear the word stillbirth at this point. I know that they are going to do whatever it takes for us to have a healthy and safe delivery. Good luck mama's!
I am diet controlled and scheduled to be induced at 39+2 tomorrow. EDD 9/8. I was given options for a date but with Labor Day weekend, dr predicts hospital will be busy so decided the day before would help.
My doctor has told me that if I don't go into labor naturally by 39 weeks then we will talk about induction. I take glyburide twice a day to control my numbers. I'm due 9/23 (37 weeks today! Eeeek!) so we're getting close, and really hoping to go naturally!! The main reason that he stated to me was just so that baby doesn't get "too big". That and apparently they don't let anyone with GD go over 40 weeks at their office.
@mrseh5 , I'm on the same boat. The high risk doctor quote me between 38 and 38.5 due to GD and being on insulin. OB quoted 38 weeks, but they have yet to set a date. Which is never wrecking since DH gets no time off from work and I will be a ball of nerves if after my usual NST appointment is they say head to hospital now. And one of the nutritionist makes it no better by reminding me that stillbirth is a possible outcome.
My dr has a viewpoint that if you are in control of your blood sugar that you are treated like any other pregnancy. I am on nightly insulin to control fasting and diet controlled for post meal sugars.
I have a scheduled c section for 41 weeks due to my baby being breech. My dr said 41 weeks is as long as he would let me go with the GD.
It's all about what you and your dr determine is right for you!
I'm diet controlled. Getting induced at 39 weeks, but just for convenience. My doc said nothing changes unless I have to go on meds. Otherwise Kaiser treats it as a normal pregnancy.
I've been extremely frustrated with my GD experience. I was told this week (I'm 36 weeks due 9/30) that I would have to be induced week 39. The person who told me this is a hospital resident, not my OBGYN. I plan on speaking with my OBGYN about this tomorrow. Needless to say, I got upset and asked why I would need to be induced at 39 weeks if baby and I are healthy. She claims that women who treat their diabetes with medicine ( I take the lowest dose of glyburide possible once daily to regulate my fasting sugar) need to be induced. When I asked why that's when the resident mentioned stillbirth and I nearly lost my mind. I'm being monitored weekly. My baby is super active and everything else seems to check out. I was really annoyed that she mentioned stillbirth this late in the game especially after I did some additional research that states less that 0.04% of all women on glyburide experience a stillbirth. Of course I will do whatever is necessary to ensure my sweet baby is born healthy, but I think too many GD practitioners are filling our heads with nonsense to cover any possible liability, god forbid something were to happen. I would really rather not be induced before my due date, especially if baby is healthy. Hopefully my OBGYN will clarify this tomorrow.
@ubertje0530 will you update with what your OB says? I was diagnosed early, but am still just controlled with diet and thought I was good to go to into labor on my own. I see rotating doctors and also got the stillbirth card thrown out at me at around 35 weeks and was so upset it wasn't mentioned until so late in the game. They want to induce at 39 weeks, but I'm not sure if it's the best option for me and if the doctor I saw that day was using a scare tactic to sway me since none of my other doctors have mentioned it. I'm bringing it up again at my appointment tomorrow, but am curious to see what they tell you.
My dr just told me yesterday that I will be induced at 39. I've been worried about this the whole pregnancy but kind of expected it. I also have high blood pressure these last couple of weeks so that isn't helping my case at all.
I am due September 15th and will not be allowed to go past my due date even though I have been diet controlled and baby is measuring at 7lb 3 oz. I have an appt tomorrow and they said we would set an induction date at that time.
I am type one diabetic and will be induced at 37+3 because my blood pressure is starting to creep up. My doctor told me that I would not be able to go past 38.5 weeks because higher blood sugars cause the palcenta to age faster. I would love to have a "fully cooked" baby, but on the other hand, I am game to get her out while I know things are still good and healthy in there! 11 more days until I meet my wee one!!!!! :x
I am having a repeat section at 39 weeks, but not due to GD, just standard for repeats. I also have chronic hypertension, do that could change things (currently 36 +2)
Re: Any gestational diabetics getting induced?
My son was born perfectly healthy - he did have a few low sugars (they will monitor your baby as well because of the GD) but he's fine now.
Good luck momma, you'll be cuddling your little one soon!
