Sleeping a lot-not a growth spurt

my LO will be 8 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday her went to sleep at 6pm woke at 2:20 am ate back to bed up again at 4:45am to eat back to bed until 8:30 am ate a few times back to bed sleep around 1 pm. It's now almost 6 pm and he's still asleep. He's been peeing fine. We just started supplementing his breastfeeding with formula today because he's having milk transfer problems and not getting more than 1 ounce per feeding. Do you think he's sleeping so much because his belly is full? Typically he's up and crying if he's not on my boob because he's always hungry. Im just not sure if it's normal to be sleeping this much.

Re: Sleeping a lot-not a growth spurt

  • Sounds normal to me for an 8 week old. I say it's no cause for concern as long as no head injury is involved.

  • I'm so used to him being fussy from being hungry. I'm just not sure how a full baby works! He's usually on my boob every hour
  • Mine sleeps a lot still as well. We are 5 weeks.

Sounds normal... My son is 5 weeks and we bottle feed breast milk... Other than 2 or 3 periods of awake/alertness per day, which is 1-3 hours, he's sleeping or feeding!

Glad he's doing better and giving you a break ;)

  • My son will be 8 weeks old tomorrow too and he's been sleeping a lot the past few days. I have the wonder weeks app and it said he's going through a developmental change right now so I attributed it to that.

I've been using his extra sleep time to take longer showers and get stuff done around the house. I can't say that I mind it!
  • Mine is almost 8 weeks and there are days where she hardly naps, but most of the time she'll take at least one 4 or 5 hr nap a day, in addition to the shorter cat naps and the overnight hours - she sleeps about 8 or 9 hours with one feeding. I'd say your baby sounds like he's doing fine!
  • If your baby is eating and having dirty diapers everything is probably ok. If the baby is lethargic and not eating well, call your doctor because there could be an illness. I speak from experience.
  • Oh you've given me hope for a bit of a break around 8 weeks! My LO is 5.5 weeks and rarely will sleep more than 2.5 hours at a time during the night. Yesterday he fussed all day and had only a couple of half hour naps. We're all a little overtired over here!
  • Thanks everyone. Like I said I'm so used to him being fussy or on my boob that I just wasn't sure if he should be sleeping that much at 8 weeks. Glad to see it's normal. Guess now I just enjoy it
  • Whoa I finally joined this club too - my LO is 9 weeks and just slept from 11:30-5 am straight thru for the first time ever ! She usually wakes every 3 hours . It was glorious ! Hope it keeps up and wasn't a fluke !
  • Yall are giving me something to look forward to
  • My LO is 5 weeks old. He has been only waking for one MOTN feeding instead of 2 or 3. Last night he slept from 9ish to 2 am, well I woke him at that point to eat....he probably would've slept longer. Went back to sleep til 5:15, then ate & was awake a while. Then went back to sleep from 7 ish to 9:45. Then awake from 9:45 till 1:45, then slept from 1:45 til 3:30. So lots of sleeping, but kind of spaced out.
  • He might alsp be exhausted from being up so much before? I bet he will start staying awake for some longer stretches. LO is 9 weeks and she has some days where she's more tired than others, especially if we've seen new people or been in a new place the day before.
