Diapers

Ive been trying to get stocked up on diapers in different sizes in advanced, just buying a pack everytime I go shopping. Ive worked at a day care so I know what kind of diapers I don't like, I'm just having a hard time deciding what ones I do like. You second time moms have favorite diaper band?

  • I used Pampers Swaddlers. My DD never had any issues with them and DH liked that he could easily tell when she needed to be changed with yellow/ blue strip.

  • I'm planning on using pampers too. I haven't bought any but got a few boxes as gifts
  • We started with pampers but around 6 months changed to seventh generation and the honest company. There's too much unknown stuff in pampers and all those other brands after I started learning about all of. For the seventh generation we prefer the touch of cloth version, they seemed to hold more and had less leaks.
  • For the first few months I Loved the Pamper Swaddlers...The yellow/blue stripe was a lifesaver!!!

  • The pamper swaddlers are great. I'm pregnant with #4.
  • I use pampers swaddlers in the beginning. Then around 5-6 months I switched to luvs. This is what I did with my first two. Until two months ago when my 2 year old started leaking out the luvs at night so we switched to huggies. I think each brand has benefits. I love the yellow/blue line in the beginning with pampers. Then luvs is great because they are alittle cheaper and I change as soon as its wet so it doesn't matter to me if it can't hold as much, until he started leaking at night. We went to huggies over pampers now only because DS was with me and they have Mickey mouse on them right now. For wipes we use huggies, the other ones we used dried out before we could use them all. We have them in almost every room so we don't have a set changing station just a bunch of diaper caddies. But they have been doing great. If you don't have a membership to a big box store I would get one.

  • Luvs! I started out with huggies but found I love luvs.
  • We started with pampers swaddlers for size 1 and then moved to target brand "up&up". They work good and when then have good sales or gift card promos I always stock up. Luckily once my DD was in size 3 she didn't have anymore "blowouts" so we could buy cheaper brands.
  • I hate Luvs, not because of the quality, but I hate that baby powder smell. It is super strong. Anytime we had some I sent them to daycare so I didn't have to smell them. :D
  • Pampers are my favorite or I really like up and up brand or parents choice. Only diapers I really don't like are baby's r us diapers
  • I have only ever had my son in the up&up target brand diapers from day 1. We have never had a problem with leaks. I used the Kirkland brand from Costco primarily with my daughter and liked those as well.

  • Pampers swaddlers here!!! Loved them! We've since moved to luvs and target brand.
  • Pampers all the way at our house ... and will use for #3.
  • Pampers swaddlers (until they are big enough for cloth)
Is it weird I love the way they smell?

  • My sister swears by the target brand. She's never had a problem with them so that's what we have been stocking up on!
  • Target Up&Up here!
  • I tried pampers with my son bc I get them for discount at the hospital I work for but he would leak out of them. But Huggies worked great for him. As much as I want to stock up on the pampers right now bc of the discount, I'm holding off to see what works best for the princess. I'm hoping its pampers to save mommy and daddy some money!
  • I liked pampers but I wouldn't pay the extra price. We use walmart brand dipers and wipes. I love the Sam's Club brand dipers but they never have the right size in and the wipes are always having recalls so I didn't renew my membership. I hate luvs, they're so squishy. Huggies has had a lot of burn claims so they scare me. I've noticed that many people think pampers is better for girls and huggies is better for boys.
  • Pampers swaddlers are nice when they are newborns, but then I switched to luvs. My daughter was long and skinny so Huggies didn't seem to fit her right. Babies r us brand were so ridiculous with leaking i couldnt even finsh the pack. I loved luvs, but my sister tried them on her kids and they were ALL allergic to them.
  • I've actually really liked the generic store brands. Baby's r us brand has been one of our favorites

  • Pampers swaddlers for us!
  • ... And Costco wipes are my favorite!!
  • I've been buying Pampers.  My sister actually swears Target's Up&Up is just as good, though.

  • We started with Pampers Swaddlers and loved them when DS was little. Once he started sitting up and moving around more he started blowing out of the Swaddlers and we tried just about every kind of diaper out there and Huggies Snug & Dry were the only ones that held everything in. From talking to other mommies it seems the overwhelming majority like Pampers Swaddlers for newborns and then once they start getting bigger it just depends on what fits baby best.
  • I'm a FTM, so no past experience here, but I've been stocking up on Up and Up diapers. My co worker used them for both her boys. I even registered for about 4 of each size too through my Targret baby registry :D I really just like practical stuff, not a bunch of pretties or knik knacks or toys....
  • My son peed without fail through every pampers diaper we have every put on him. He has yet to have a blowout with Huggies so we will again be sticking with Huggies. My nephew wears pampers and they always look like he is carrying a load even if its just pee.
  • We also started with Pampers but switched to Huggies around 2 months because DD was getting constant diaper rashes from pampers. She's now 15 months and starting to get diaper rashes again (more like little bumps all over, not like a rash from acidic poop) so now I'm not sure what to try!

My only suggestion is to not buy just what you like or too many because your baby might be sensitive to a certain brand and then you'd have all these diapers you can't use.

  • Pampers swaddlers had a strange lining that left an awful, easy imprint on DD's behind, and Luv's and Huggies always leaked on us. We're sworn Up&Up lovers here, too! They even have the yellow/blue wetness line on them for newborn through size 2. Plus, they're super affordable, and you can buy in bulk. Target is the only place for us!

Side note: I think I've mentioned this before, but my mother and I worked at a crisis pregnancy center and the women who came in always specifically requested Target diapers. When name-brand ones were donated, we had trouble getting rid of them! I've not met any parent who used them that didn't like them.
  • Does anyone have experience with Bambo diapers?

I LOVE Bambo!! They're absorbant (my 16 month olds never leak overnight in them), soft, cute, and so so safe for baby and the environment. We used Earth's Best until recently and I'm mad we didn't switch sooner. We've also used Honest, which are just cuter versions of earths best.

    @efrans

ETA: they're also supposed to be good for sensitive skin and help prevent diaper rash.
  • My absolute favorite brand is Luvs.
    N (2004)A (2007), N (2010), and L (due 1/2016)
  • With my DD my best friend swore by pampers so I used them...for about 10 weeks...ONLY because I had that many "free" ones from my diaper shower...but I hated them. My DD had blowouts and leakage which started around the time she was 9 weeks. Once all those "free" pampers were gone I got a hold of Huggies and never had a blowout or leakage problem again.
My Best friends kids are very thin...tiny. My DD was also until around 8-9 weeks and then...she became a chunk and her booty I think is what didn't work for the pampers...I have a feeling that will be the same issue with this baby girl as well. My DD is 7 now and she still has that booty...
  • Pampers swaddlers then switched to Huggies and I haven't had a problem with either. I hated the target UP&up! Kirkland wipies are awesome.

Just FYI, for those FTM having boys, make sure their private is "down" when you change them to avoid leaks. And one size bigger for the poop blowouts.
  • We used Pampers swaddlers in the beginning. Then she got chunky so we switched to the pampers cruisers. I found the swaddlers were for a skinnier baby. At night once she started sleeping mostly through the night we used pampers Baby Dry. No leaks and never wet through. Then around 1 we started using target brand. So much cheaper. I will probably do the same thing again with #2.
  • Pampers swaddlers for us too. We tried huggies and Kirkland brand and both leaked for us. Someone told me that pampers swaddlers fit better for skinny babies, and huggies fit better for chunkier babies.
  • We buy whatever's on sale. In the beginning we stuck with Pampers Swaddlers or Huggies Snugglers for the wetness line but quickly we learned how often she needed changing, and we probably won't use them for as long this time. We had some Honest brand ones which were really nice but gifted to us and too expensive for us to re-purchase. Had a diaper cake of Luvs, they worked well except for overnight for DD. Also used Target Up & Up... I'd put them on part with Luvs. As far as blowouts are concerned, I'm convinced there's not a diaper on the planet that can keep a giant baby poop in. We haven't had an issue with poop since she stopped being exclusively bottle fed (either formula or pumped bm). Sometimes she pees through a diaper overnight but then we usually just buy a size up for nighttime.

And whoever said not to buy too many of one brand is absolutely correct... it didn't happen to us but I know as a child my mom couldn't use Pampers on me at all, and there are lots of moms who say certain brands irritate their baby's bottoms.
  • I use Pampers. I used Swaddlers until she was big enough for Cruisers. She has sensitive skin, so Luvs and Up & Up don't seem like they absorb as quickly and she gets diaper rash if we use them overnight. I buy Swaddlers sensitive if she has diaper rash. Huggies leaked everywhere. Seriously, pee everywhere! I'm having a diaper show at work for #2 and I'm going to request that they avoid buying Huggies.
