My mother in law keeps suggesting that I put baby cereal in my son bottle. I think he's not old enough just yet but she's insisting breast milk is not getting him full. So confused
as long as he doesn't seem hungry and hes gaining weight i wouldn't worry about it . unless Your doctor tells you to do it its probably better not too.
Your breast milk is made to feed your baby perfectly. Unless your baby is not gaining weight and your doctor is concerned, he doesn't need anything but your milk. Rice cereal has basically no nutritional value for your baby.
I'm actually so against rice cereal it's insane. My MIL keeps pushing it on me and I absolutely refuse to feed DS it because it has no nutritional value and is basically just a filler. But that's just my opinion, I have nothing against people who do feed their babies rice cereal by any means - sometimes it's so beneficial for baby.
Anyways, like everyone is saying above, if baby boy is gaining weight and doctors aren't concerned I wouldn't bother. Your MIL is probably coming from a place where everyone under the sun was feeding their baby rice cereal because they believed it made LO's sleep better. Do what you think is right, and if you have any questions, ask your doctor!
Agreed with PP. There's no need to use cereal at this age. If your LO is not having enough wet diapers or gaining weight then speak to your pediatrician. They would likely recommend supplementing with formula rather than cereal.
This is why I am going to start homemade babyfood at 4 months. Cereal wont harm your baby (if they still drink all the milk they normally do) but their are not nutrients in it. Also some give cereal then LO is not hubgry so they miss a feeding and are out nutrients they normally get
