so if we have a boy I'm going for an old world nautical theme. By that I mean less cutesy whales and more ropes, vintage globes, and sunken ships. Accent colots being red navy brown and grey. I didn't pick out a standard bedding for the crib and will have a burlap crib skirt with navy trim. My big issue right now is wall color! I thought I wanted to do sort of a tea stained color - in the brown or yellow families. I'm open to other colors but I'd love some suggestions!
I love the idea of doing a map wall, there's quite a few examples on Pinterest, if you did an old world style Map you could then paint the other walls with a color from the map, like the tea stain colors you mentioned!
ETA... look on Pinterest. It's a total time sink, but there's tons of inspiration on there!
I love the wheel idea!
We have one that H's grandpa carved out of oak with a matching wooden barometer. Looks really nice on our one gray wall. And like you said, nautical without being cheesy.
Another nice option for a feature wall is to alternate stripes of matte and high gloss paint. It's subtle, I think, but still nautical?

I'll have to look that up, sounds really perfect! Hopefully it's not too difficult because I'm not an artist! Ha

This is what our DS room theme is... His wall color is a creamy light yellow not a nursery yellow, if that makes scense. Old pictures... But we used oars and decoupaged maps to letters for his initials. And above his changing table we just did a collage of pieces we liked!

I found this wallpaper on Amazon. Great price!! I don't think it would cover the whole wall but it would be the majority and for $25 we could make it work!
@Sprinkles07 that's what the walls I saw on Pinterest looked like, they didn't cover the whole wall but were centered and looked amazing! I've also seen old maps for sale at antique stores, you could do a collage of the wallpaper doesn't work either way it's an awesome theme!!
@chitownparent I think that's what I love most about this theme!!! I can do the nursery now, and just add a few touches when we figure out sex!!! (Photo for example) of course I will NOT be paying $45 for something I can diy!
I like the girl nautical theme too but I'm dying to paint a room pink! Haha. I'm doing pink gold and burlap for a girl. Pink walls with a gold dot accent wall.

The first pic is someone from my other BMB (cut out baby's name for privacy) but it gives you an idea. I love the navy without being TOO dark.
The second photo is the anchor stencil that could be done in a a taupe, grey or navy (really whatever color) and would still add a pop!

The map accent wall is a fantastic idea. If you're up for blues, a navy accent wall with the others painted grey would be nice too!
Beautiful theme though. Make sure you post Some pictures as you make progress. We would love to see it
