Toddler Sharing Room With New Baby??? Anyone in the same situation... Help

Living in So Cal and renting, its expensive for us to move into a 3 bedroom. We don't know how much longer we will be renting so for now its going to be DS and Baby sharing a room. Just interested in seeing if any other mom's are also going to be doing the same thing? Its going to be transitional since I really have no idea how its going to work out. Crib will be in my room for the start and then move into my DS's room. Along with other things. Any advice for a combo Boy/Gal Room?? My sons room before was rich in dark brown and navy, now I've started converting to grey/ pewter and white and black. Something that can be neutral for both...Totally bummed that I won't be able to have my dream girl nursery, but NBD life goes on..  Would be interested to hear any good ideas on what to do, or if anyone is stuck like I.

Gracias ladies...

  • I will have 5 kids and 4 bedrooms, so my 5 year old boy will be sharing with baby girl. I am painting the walls tan and baby girl will have pink and brown bedding and my son will have blue and brown. I'm sad also not to be able to give baby girl the nursery I always dreamed of if I ever had a girl, but life moves on.

  • I'll be sharing our room with dd when she arrives. Her brother is 10 so he's to old for a baby to be in his room. We will make it work. Plus for us it's only a year and then we will find a three bedroom something.
  • DD is four. She is going to be sharing a room with baby (boy). We picked up some of those wall decals that you can just stick to the wall (renting, weary about painting). Was planning on girly ones for her side of the room and jungle ones for his side, but dd decided she wanted to share the jungle ones so half are on each side of the room. (Note for anyone using these, dd likes to pull them down and put them back up. Between that and the textured walls, some of hers don't stick anymore. No issues with baby's side where they are left alone)

  • DD and DS will be sharing a room. It seems silly considering how big our house is (4 bedrooms) but DH used one bedroom for an office, as he's self employed and works from home. And the other is a guest room, that gets used fairly regularly (at least one weekend a month, sometimes more).

DD slept in our room, in our bed, till I found out I was pregnant. Then we finally stuck to our guns about making her sleep in her own bed.

So I really didn't think it was necessary for DS to have his own room full of things he won't even appreciate.

He will be sleeping in a cradle in our room. And then hopefully, he'll be a good sleeper and sleep in his crib in DD room after that.

We built a closet system so they can share a closet, and I just hang most of their clothes. The toys end up out in the living room anyway most of the time, so there really doesn't need to much in the bedroom besides a twin bed, a crib and a dresser/changing table.

We plan to continue this setup till DS is at least two. Then we haven't decided where to go from there. DS might get the queen bed in the guest room, and just get kicked to his sisters trundle bed when we have guests...or...we aren't sure yet. But we have a couple years to figure it out.

  • All that and I didn't tell you colors...haha.

We fell in love with this print. We will do her side/bed a little heavier in the pinks/Aqua she loves, and the navy/greens for DS crib.

  • DS, age 2, will share a room with his sister for the foreseeable future. I gave each child their own corner of the room, with the dressers in the middle (closet is on the opposite wall).

As far as decorating, DS's room is pretty colorful. Lots of blue, with some red and brown and a few accents of green and yellow. I used the brown throughout the entire room (our glider is brown and white) and added mint green and pink for DD. Each space has its own color scheme, tied together with the brown as well as the furniture, which is all light wood. I bought DS a toddler bed that matches the crib.

As far as transitioning, we'll be keeping DD in the packnplay in the living room the first few months (our room is the "den" right off the LR and is too small for DD). Once she's sleeping 5-6 hours, she'll move in with DS. DS sleeps pretty soundly at night so once DD isn't waking every couple hours, I think they'll be fine to share.
