Allergic to pads!

So I've been wearing pads for a while now and didn't think anything of the itching and irritation don't know why do be honest, until now it's so bad I've changed pads but still seem to be itchy and swollen, I've never had this as I have never had to use pads for this long I don't know what to use now!! I change it regularly to avoid irritation aswell doesn't seem to help

Re: Allergic to pads!

  • I'm really sensitive to stuff so I tried these. Love them. Mine are grey chevron (not that anyone would see them!)

  • I am allergic to so much and pads are on the list. I use cloth ones normally but not sure how those will work post delivery. I have tried some natural fiber ones but they don't seem as effective.
  • Do you mean nursing pads, or a period pad for discharge?

If it's nursing pads, definitely try the reusable ones. I got some organic bamboo ones at Babies R Us and they are great.
If it's period type pads, look at trader joe's or whole foods for organic cotton options. Might help not having any kind of chemicals in them.
  • Glad I came across this. I have some sensitivity to certain things and pre baby tampons seemed to be one. Will have to look into some of the recommendations given. It's so hard to try new things though when you have something that you trust!!
  • Sorry I mean period type pads this is all good advice I have had sensitive skin my whole life and honestly never used pads for this long. I have always used tampons, obviously I can't use those at the moment so be good to see the recommendations! I might try the bamboo nursing pads no doubt I'll be allergic to ones I have haha thanks ladies for the advice.
  • Try using a barrier. A&D, coconut oil, etc.
  • You can get reusable cloth pads, too!  I was weirded out by them at first, but honestly, they are so much more comfortable, and really don't take a lot to get used to.  Some of my favorites are from Homestead Emporium (on facebook, Etsy, and Hyenacart), and Pink Lemonade (also on Facebook and at www.pinklemonadeshop.com).  The upfront cost is more, but they last a long time!
  • Another fan of cloth pads, have been wearing cloth pads and liners through my whole pregnancy and they have been way more comfy. I like Glad Rags for liners, party in my pants pads and Yutcraft (etsy) pads. I even have a good stash of extra large mama pads for PP
  • I found these cotton pads at the shops all organic! I'm never turning back again honestly best thing I've ever worn you can't even tell there on, they don't have the Yucky feeling!!!! Thanks for all the advice guys if these don't work I'll be going cloth!!
  • Also coconut oil sounds good! Least it'll smell good and stop the reaction :D
