Less movement

My girl has been crazy active the last 2 days. But today I'm not feeling much movement. There is some big "can't miss it" type movements when we poke at her but I can't get my kick counts even though this is her active time. I've tried to use my Doppler and she'll move away from it so I know she's in there just decreased movement. It's not easy for me to call my dr since I really don't have a set dr. My husband is military and you basically just have to go to L&D if you think there's an issue. So would you go in or count the big random movements as ok?

Re: Less movement

  • If you are worried, just go in and check it's honestly all that will put your mind at ease. Just a week ago I went in concerned since my LO barely moved all day, and of course as Murphey's Law would have it as soon as they started screening him, he went absolutely crazy, but you know what? The nurses didn't make me feel silly at all and I felt at ease knowing everything was okay! Worth the trip.

I read that you should call your doc within 12 hours for decreased movement and don't wait more than 2 hours for no movement.
I had a day last week where baby didn't move much and it had me very worried. I kept drinking orange juice and water and poking him and watching the clock. About 8 hours after I noticed decreased movement he started kicking up a storm like usual and has continued to do so. I figure he was just sleeping off schedule and no big deal but you betcha I would have been on the phone with my doc or visiting l&d if he didn't start kicking the crap out of me by that 12 hour mark that I read about.
If baby's not moving normally by morning I'd call or go in. If at point baby just stops moving entirely call immediately and ask them what they want you to do.
You may end up with an "unnecessary" trip to l&d but it's definetly a case of better safe than sorry and when it's your baby's health at stake I don't think there really is being too careful.
  • She definitely had me worried because I even ate and played her music and she didn't move. And that always gets her going. But she finally got back to her crazy self about 30 minutes ago. Thanks for the advice ladies :)
  • Keep in mind the further along you get the less room baby has to move around it so there will be times where you don't feel as much movement as before. If it's been more than a few hours and you are worried go to L&D.
  • My doctors told me that the farther along you get the more movement will decrease as our little ones are getting cramped and don't have much room to move around... She said when I do my count all I need is 5 kicks
  • My baby usually has slow days after two days of crazy activity. I think they tire themselves out and sleep! But I'm always watchful when he has slow days, and if you are concerned you should absolutely go in!
  • My baby has days like that. As long as she's moving, she's okay. My doctor said that babies have their off days. Some days they're super active, and somedays they just don't feel like moving much.
  • I read you can slap your belly a few times to wake baby up so you can try that first.

  • That's what I usually do lol. I pat her like you would pat a baby's butt when you're bouncing them. It usually works.
  • I've had my husband put his head on my belly and he could hear the heartbeat (and you can tell because it's so fast).
