Trying to Get Pregnant

icsi & pregnancy troubles

Hello new to the bump..

I have been trying to conceive since Feb-march 2015..
I had an epotopic pregnancy in may 2014 and lost my left tube.. I also had endometriosis burnt off 2 months before that..
My partner has a low sperm count, apparently not to bad just not as good as it should be.
My specialist said clomid and preganancy natural is not the best way to go and tat we would have to go down ivf/icsi path.
Whats everyones thoughts?

Has anyone fallen pregnant with endo and 1 tube and low sperm count? Or do I have to spend nearly $15,000 to go through icsi?

Please help I really want this family. .

  • I'm sorry for everything you have been through! The Bump is a great community, I hope you will get some good advice. There is a trouble TTC board, and an infertility board as well; you may want to check them out. This board has a few who are going through what you are, but many who are not and can't give much advice. Good luck!

Sorry for all your trouble!! Don't forget this is a TTGP so you may not find many success stories of pregnancy as we are all trying to get pregnant. You may want to try some pf the board were ladies are already pregnant.

Has the doctor considered medication for your husband?? I assume you are seeing an RE? Are you ovulating each month?
  • Loading the player...
  • Wait, you have been TTC for 6 months and your RE wants to jump right to IVF?
    How old are you?
  • yes. what @pugsandkisses said. Unless there's more to this story (like age or low ovarian reserve) this doesn't sound like it needs to be a straight to IVF scenario. There are lots of IUI success stories with one tube and below average sperm counts.

  • So sorry for your troubles :( i'm not an expert or have been in your shoes, but I agree with the other posters, it seems a little soon to jump into IVF, if anything I would assume an IUI would be the step before IVF. If you don't feel comfortable pursuing IVF just yet, please seek a 2nd opinion just for re-assurance. Doctors are the experts, but you and your husband need to feel comfortable with the steps he's suggesting. Especially with a $15,000 price tag.

  • I'm sorry for what you're going through. I hope that you can find the help that you need. You should also ask your doctor about PICSI if you have to pay out of pocket anyway. Good luck! Maybe you'll find more answers on the TTTC or Infertility boards. Just make sure that you mention *trigger-loss mentioned * in your title.
  • Sorry to hear about your troubles, but do not be discouraged.

If your DH only has low sperm count, you should not automatically go down the IVF/ICSI route.  My DH and I probably will because he has really low sperm count, only 20% motility, and 0% morphology. Meaning, basically impossible to conceive naturally and IUI would be pointless if the sperm are not forward moving and are not shaped well to penetrate the egg on its own.

It would really depend on all 3 of those factors. Do you know he has low count from an at home test? Those will only tell you the count, not the motility/morphology which is really important. Have your DH get a SA done through a urologist and make sure you are clear.  If low count is the only issue, you may be able to do IUI, which is a lot cheaper than IVF.

However, don't feel like you have to wait a year to do those tests, such as an SA (if your DH has not done so already). I, personally, am glad we didn't wait. SA is one of the simplest, cheapest tests you can get done. Once we got those results, we were referred to a fertility clinic.

If the SA results are not good, you should have 3 done for a better picture.

    Good luck!
