October 2015 Moms

How to make sure you are getting enough calories when you can't make yourself eat?

The further along I get the more difficulty I have eating. I have zero appetite, horrible heart burn, and I feel like I have something stuck in the bottom of my throat most of the time. If I eat more than a few bites of anything at a time I get sick. I can't even drink enough to have a meal replacement shake. Does anyone else have this kind of problem, and/or have any suggestions to make sure I'm still getting enough calories. I can only eat about 800-1000 calories a day now.

  • I understand how you feel- I'm not like this all the time but sometimes I just feel like I can't bring myself to eat a bite at meal time! Talk to your dr, but my dr said not to worry. The baby will get what the baby needs. If I eat 100 calories, and baby needs 90, he'll get 90 and I'll just get 10 (and feel very tired!).

Milkshakes help me with my heartburn (dairy?) and small meals...

  • I'm the same way minus the heartburn. I just feel sooo full all the time and can't manage more than a few bites at a time. I read when the baby drops you will feel less pressure/fullness in your stomach so I'm hoping that happens soon for me. I don't have any tips other than I've just been eating a lot of fruit.

I questioned this too because my appetite has really decreased. My doc said the same thing – not to worry about what the baby is getting, because the baby will always take what it needs. It can even live off of your fat storage (that's why they tell very overweight moms not to gain any weight).
