Carpal Tunnel

A few weeks ago, my doctor diagnosed me with carpal tunnel; it will go away once LO is born.
I've been using wrist bands which help for the most part-but at times I get really bad flare ups.
Anyone in the same boat? Any advice to deal with it is welcomed!

Re: Carpal Tunnel

  • No real advice, but I feel ya! I had it in my right wrist pre-pregnancy anyway. But now I have it bad in both wrists. Wrist braces are pretty much the only thing that helps some.

  • Be careful... one of my coworkers hot carpal tunnel from holding her newborn... even she couldn't explain how that happened lol
  • I've been dealing with this for several weeks now. And unfortunately for me, wraps haven't helped. I've been told Epsom salt helps, although I haven't tried it yet...just trying to hang in and deal for a few more weeks...
  • Yes! But mine is all the way up to my shoulder and neck! It's horrible :(
  • I have had carpal tunnel for about 8 years now and a couple suggestions to ease flare-ups:

     1. When you feel one coming on stop movement. Keep your hands still with your wrists and fingers straight ( if anyone sees you, you might get a few strange looks ;). Hold in that position for a few minutes.

    2. Ice your wrists for 15 minutes a few times a day. If you have a freezer at work I would recommend bringing an ice pack in and keeping it in there.

    3. Wear your wrist wrap to bed. It will be kind of uncomfortable and annoying at first, but it really helps keep the wrist straight so that you aren't causing more damage during the night.

Hang in there and I hope that it goes away once your LO is here :)

  • I have been dealing with this also. It is horrible at night and pain wakes me up. It usually takes a good hour in the morning for my hands to start to feel a little bit better but the joints in my hands hurt throughout the day.
  • That happened to me during my last pregnancy and it was horrible!!!! I had gained so much weight that Dr said it caused pressure. My wrists and arms would go numb and when I delivered I couldn't even hold her without assistance. From 100 % painful and nonfunctional it did go away 70% after delivery but it went down to 90% gone when I lost all the baby weight I had gained. I still have it now but I want to say it's very minimal.
  • I have been dealing with it for a few weeks in my right hand.  Very frustrating! I sleep with a wrap on at night and it does help a bit!
