First time to "do it" after c section

Curious, how long did you wait after your c section before having sex? I am 4 weeks post c section as of today, but the dr told us at our 2 week follow up that we could, but make sure to use a condom.
But, everything I read says to wait 6 weeks. Is that just for people who had vaginal deliveries? Do us C sectioners have to wait 6 weeks?

  • 2 week follow up? My first follow up was 6 weeks and that's when I got the all clear to resume working out and having sex. I wouldn't be having sex 2 weeks out. You're still healing from a major surgery.

  • I'm 4 weeks now. The 2 week follow up was just to check my incision.
At 2 weeks, I couldn't even imagine in a million years ever wanting to do anything! Haha. I have my 6 week appt in 2 weeks.
  • I was told to wait until 6 weeks. And even then it was iffy if I wanted to or not.
  • I was ready at four weeks postpartum, but DH wanted to wait for the green light at my six week follow up. Did I mention we only had sex five times throughout my whole pregnancy with DS? DH said he was worried he'd hurt the baby.
  • I was given the ok at six weeks but my husband was deployed so I waited five months.

I was told 2 weeks by one doctor and 6 weeks by another. If I were you, I'd wait the 6. We waited 6 weeks and it was pretty painful; we had to be gentle. Just because you had a CSection it doesn't mean that your body didn't undergo changes from pregnancy. When you do get there, be sure to use a LOT of lube and go SLOW.

Also, as a note, my doctor defined sex as "penile-vaginal penetration." She said beyond that, "get creative."

We tried at 5 weeks but had to abort the mission because it hurt like hell. Went much better at 6 weeks. I'm breastfeeding so everything is super dry though (sorry TMI).
  • I was given the okay at my 4 week check up. We also had to abort the mission due to the pain. It took a few tries and a lot of lube before it go better.
  • As the OP has stated, it was painful when I tried at 4wks but can't remember exactly when it was finally good to go.
  • My doc said 6 weeks but I couldn't make it past 4. Barely made it past one lol it's tough but wait as long as you can. I was still in pain but for some reason my hormones were very spiked after my cesarean. (I was in the hospital for almost a month, so maybe that's why lol)
  • We didn't have sex at all third trimester. We had sex this past weekend. 3 weeks after baby was born. Gentle. No pain It was fantastic.
  • 6 weeks. You have wounds that are healing inside and out.
  • With my first we had the ok at 2 weeks, had to wait longer than 6 weeks tho bc even at 6 weeks it was so much pain!
  • I am at almost 8 weeks now, and it's still a bit uncomfortable at first.
Will this ever feel right again?!?!
  • Tried at week 5 and it was successful. The more you try the more comfortable it gets!
  • 11 days pp with my first child and it was fine, just took it steady
  • 6 weeks for us. But depending on position it would be extremely painful. Took a few months before pain was completely gone.
  • My husband and I waited about two weeks. I was incredibly emotional and needed that closeness. We took it very slow and easy and he made sure not to put any pressure at all on my belly. We definitely didn't follow the 4-6 week wait time!
