bath time?

My LO is 6wks old and we only use water in his bath. I'm wondering when we should start using soap and shampoo etc?

Re: bath time?

  • We have been using it from the start.

  • Yep we use soap and shampoo. The hospital even used it in the baby right away.
  • Same here, we use soap and shampoo from first day.
  • We use it too, as did the hospital :)
  • Yup, we've been using soap since she was born.

  • Thanks. Our hospital in Australia said to limit scents and bits at the start but didn't say when to start using them.
  • My LO is almost 3 weeks old and we haven't used soap/shampoo on him at all. But also, he really doesn't get dirty. His baths are more just to get him used to taking baths. This was def not the case with our first, who spit up a LOT.... He got real baths frequently.
  • Yup we have used Aveeno baby wash from the start (for hair too) the hospital used Johnson & Johnson right after he was born
  • We use Burt's Bees baby shampoo and body wash. We have used it since day 1
  • I was told to use soap/shampoo on their hair when it looks greasy. I'm still just using water on his skin (5 weeks) and he is clean. I will use soap if he is dirty or smelly starting at 6 weeks.
  • What about lotion? Is anyone putting lotion on their LO yet?
  • Yes @v&druston I am using Aveeno baby lotion on him
  • There's non scented baby products :) that's the kind we use, both my husband and I have very sensitive skin and so does our daughter. Non scented things helped out a lot. But we used them from when she was born as well :)
  • Day he was born with our LO too. Hospital used Johnson and Johnson but i find it drying. We use babyganics foaming soap and lotion. It is all natural non drying and smells amazing! I am trying to avoid cradle cap at all costs and there is no sign so far and I really think it is because of the soap. I just think it looks gross
  • We started giving our baby girl baths last week when she was 4 weeks old, we use Honest Company hair and body wash because it's sulfate and paraban free and free if a lot of other junk too. Also it has a light please t smell. We only give her baths a few times a week for now. Oh, we also use the Sink Flower thing and it's awesome!!!
  • We do baths 2x a week. His hair gets oily looking, but I know the oil is good too. He has a lot of dark hair. We were told to brush it everyday to spread the natural oils around his scalp. No sign of cradle cap here either! We are using a puj tub that fits in our bathroom sink

We use lotion, Parents Choice (Wal-Mart store brand), it's their version of Johnson & Johnson. It smells so good and DD seems to enjoy it.
  • I have used soaps and lotions since the 2nd week. We use the bedtime lotions and soaps.
  • DD was in the nicu for 8 days and they started her on a bathtime routine every night and used nighttime Johnson and johnsons, so we have kept the nightly routine at home. She loves her bedtime bath, put her to sleep for the whole night!
  • @ecloho I love the puj tub!!

  • Use soap.. It's made to be safe from day one.
  • We use mustella and baby girl smells so sweet, I'll prob forever love that scent now. We live in Texas, so baby girl does get pretty sweaty at times. She gets a water bath every evening and a soapy bath 3x a week.
  • We had been using aveeno soap from the start but last week at his 2 month appointment dr said his skin was dry and to stop using soap. Said resume in a few months. She said continue to shampoo hair but water is all they need.

We use burts bees baby shampoo/soap. I don't use it every time though, sometimes I just get him in the bath cause it calms him down/cools him off.

But I've been bathing him since his stump fell off.
    He loves the bath.

  • Wouldn't let me attach it ^

    Omg so adorable!!!
  • Omg he is too cute
  • Burrs bees baby wash and lotion starting at day 3, and we bathe every 2-3 days. Every day I wash her face with a wet washcloth (no soap) since she has baby acne, then I put a little breast milk on it and it's helping. Sometimes I'll just wash her hair too if it's looking greasy, just stick her scalp under the faucet. We use a baby tub in our tub. She loves it!
  • We give our little guy a bath with soap about twice a week, but I do wash his hair like every other day bc he has a small amount of cradle cap so my dr recommended putting olive oil on it for a little bit then washing and brushing. It seems to do the trick. LO loves his bathtime!
  • We have been using Burts Bees from the start (it sells divine) and sometimes I will use the Burts Bees lotion post bath but l mostly use coconut oil. We bathe her every 2 or 3 days depending on spit up and blowouts haha.
