Baby dropping/Head engaged question

I am 30+5. Yesterday, baby girl dropped so low that I felt the pops, my stomach is back to looking like I am 4-5 months pregnant, and there is a ton of pressure. I don't remember this with DD1...anyone know if there is any correlation between baby dropping and when labor will happen? Really hoping for another 6 weeks minimum of her staying in...

Re: Baby dropping/Head engaged question

  • I think that this is a call for your doctor, I think every ones experience with baby dropping is different so it's hard to comment. My son was frank breech so never dropped or engaged but my daughter didn't engage until I was in labour. Also if your bump has shrunk it's definitely best to check, my bump just got lower I wouldn't say it got smaller.

  • I agree with pp when my second engaged my bump was just really low but still fully stuck out there. He engaged early at 37 weeks and I had to be induced 3 days after my due date to get him out. With DS 1 he didn't engage and drop until I was in active labor and from start to finish I only labored 12 hrs with him. So I am not sure that engagement is a great indicator of labor starting. My dr kept hoping Ds2 would pop pack up but alas he liked that spot and I sat on his head for 3 weeks lol. It was super uncomfortable
  • Thanks ladies. I guess the bigger worry then is the shrinking bump. Doctor said it could wait until my regular appointment Tuesday unless I had any problems.

In all the research I have done, I have seen no direct link to dropping and labor right away. Some women went into labor a few days to a few months. My LO dropped two weeks ago (I'm 28 weeks.) There are other things going on with my pregnancy to make my dr concerned. But, she said dropping alone wouldn't concern her.

  • Unless you're feeling regular contractions you're probably safe to wait for your appt. With my first he dropped at 30 weeks and stayed head down and ready until I was just over 38 weeks and I went into labor. Position has a lot to do with how you look. First thing in the morning I always look way smaller and once baby girl gets moving and gravity does its thing i look completely different by the end of the day. So if everything has shifted lower it may just give the illusion of being smaller.
