Re: Sciatica Pain - please help!!!!

  • Do you have access to a chiropractor? It is truly amazing how much a quick adjustment helps. My insurance doesn't cover it but I find the value in it, and the out of pocket cost is very reasonable. I go once a month, more if I injure/tweak something. My Chiro is very keen to keep my pelvis aligned as this causes a lot of problems/discomfort for pregnant women.
I hope you find relief soon! That limp/drag the leg sciatica walk is no fun :(

  • Pigeon pose and foam roller ( use the foam roller on your piriformis-upper butt)!
  • Definatley not fun dragging my leg around! Thanks for both ur help, im keen in trying just about ANYTHING to get some sort of relief [-O<
  • I went to physical therapy when I was pregnant with DD and it helped a ton. Also ice and a memory foam mattress topper help me.
  • I'm in the same boat as you! Really my only big pregnancy complaint right now but it's horrible. I'll feel fine but then step wrong on my left foot and my whole leg gives out in pain! Try googling some sciatica stretches, I've found some provide relief although haven't had much luck preventing it in the first place. My next step is chiropractor. Hope it gets better for you, it's definitely no fun!
  • I second the chiropractor suggestion! For me my insurance covers it as long as you get a referral from you doctor or OBGYN but that just depends on your policy, but even out of pocket as a pp said is very reasonable. Mine charges either $30-40 for an adjustement and it's very worth it if you can afford to go a few times the first week or 2 and then once a month or as needed after that.
  • my mother swears by acupuncture to help her manage her pain. She will go weeks pain free afterwards.

  • I've been struggling since 13 weeks: chiropractor, icy hot patches, Epson salt baths help with the pain to stay ahead of it though walk as much as possible and whe you can lie flat on your back, bend your knees up to your abdomen (as much as your belly will allow), cross your left foot onto your right knee and then gently pull on you left knee to stretch that nerve for ten seconds, then do the other side for the same. Hopeful that you get some relief soon.
  • I had sciatica soooooo bad at week 14. I couldnt walk, sleep, anything. I saw my chiropractor and it helped amazingly fast. I went in for a second adjustment that week just to seal the deal and I havent had any flare ups. Its worth every penny.
