Re: Everything I eat gives me bad heartburn
ETA I was using the prescription which is preventative. You take it twice a day. You can also use the OTC kind that you just take after it starts, but it's not as effective.
With my first pregnancy I pretty much couldn't keep anything down for the last 3 months and didn't get a lot of sleep every night because my heartburn will keep me up. This time around I knew better and there were a couple things that I did to avoid having really bad heartburn especially towards the end. One thing is to avoid eating anything after about 6 o'clock at night and make dinner your smallest and blandest meal. This will help prevent heartburn at night when you were laying down in bed. Other things is to avoid a lot of things with tomato seeds in them because that can really make heartburn worse. Also 5 small meals a day works a lot better than 3 big meals a day on your stomach when it comes to heartburn. Another tip is try not to drink too much water before bed because water will make the anything in your stomach including the acid rise up into your throat if you lay down.
I'll be 34 weeks this week and so far have only had one or two really bad night this time around compared to my first pregnancy. Yes I am back to eating cereal or oatmeal every night before bed, as well as taking my pepcid every night and eating usually before 5:30, but it's been night and day difference compared to the last pregnancy.
Again don't be afraid to talk to your doctor and I could give you a better idea on an over the counter when they prefer you personally to have. But yes there are some available so go and ask and it'll make a world of difference. Hope you feel better soon.
Actually I wound up eating a cup of yogurt a couple hours before bed last night and had no heart burn at all! That was after eating a pulled pork sandwich and ranch style beans!
I have not had take an antacide yet, but we shall see how long the milk and yogurt works for as this little guy gets bigger.
