Hello, I saw target has an up and up free and clear detergent. Does anyone know if that's baby safe? It's much cheaper than the specialty newborn laundry detergent and it would be nice to be able to wash our clothes with baby clothes!
Honestly unless everyone is using the free and clear soap and no dryer sheets it really doesn't matter what you use. If your child has an allergy/sensitivity it requires everyone to be scent/allergen free since you are holding baby against you all the time. That said we do use the all free and clear for our son except for the cloth diapers which get arm and hammer like the rest of us.
Any free and clear detergent is good for baby. We use All free and clear, but have used generics in the past also. I have sensitive skin so it was no change for us when DS came.
If you're using free and clear anything, you're in good shape, but regular detergent is fine, too. No need for special baby detergent, baby clothes can be washed like everyone else's. Specialty detergent is a rip off! The only reason to change would be if baby has a skin irritation from your detergent, which is not super common. Or if you or your other kids have a history of sensitive skin, in which case, you probably already use special detergent.
I just bought the Up&Up Baby detergent. It was about $12, the larger size of Up&Up Free and Clear was around $10, so cheaper for sure. There is a cartwheel discount for all up&up detergents right now too.
Babies existed for thousands of years before specialty detergents came along. You can use whatever, unless baby has sensitive skin (beyond that of standard infant sensitivity).
We used regular detergent with both my other kids with no problems. And my son has very sensitive skin but the detergent never bothered it. I generally just run the washer through and extra rinse cycle.
