Baby toilet on registry ?

Is a potty training toilet something that is typically on a registry or is that odd since it's something you won't need until later?

I've never seen it on one, I wouldn't put it on mine. Just like you said, it won't be something you use for a long time. Also, although everything on the checklist they give you isn't needed, I noticed it's not on there either so I think it'd be weird to register for.

My favorite bump phrase - it's gift grabby to register for something you won't need for at least a year. You shouldn't expect others to buy anything for you and if you can't afford it yourself don't have a baby ;-)

In all seriousness you don't need it... all its going to do is take up space. 99% of the registry suggestions are unnecessary, but my registry was only 30 items so what do I know lol

I think it's weird. You would just have to store it for like 2 years... Plus I don't think they're that expensive.

How do you all feel about high chairs on the registry though? My SIL had a really expensive one on hers and i thought it was weird. That could just be me though. She also had a nursing bra and nursing camis on there too so maybe the whole thing just was odd? Haha

*lurker* I wouldn't find it an odd thing to have on there if you're planning to do early toilet training or EC (with a newborn a smaller toilet is a bit easier from what I've read). But not that many people do, so the 1 yr rule is a good rule of thumb.

I was not implying that you couldn't afford a plastic toilet. What I meant by the price comment is that it's easily picked up when the time comes. You will have so much stuff to store already - including the clothes and toys baby will grow out of between now and then. Unless you have limitless storage, it just makes more sense to wait to get it. Plus, by the time your kid is old enough to need it, he/she will probably want to pick out their own - which in all likelihood will motivate them to want to sit on it.

@littleSkittle14 the highchair is weird to me because you won't use it right away. Anything requested for use past the first six months seems excessive. If the intent is to help mom out when she initially has baby then to ask for things beyond that seems selfish... But that's just me ;-) The nursing bras are weird too but I will assume it's because she want to get them with her completion discount. I put nursing bras and some other toiletries on my current registry so I get it, but my registry is truly only for me and I would never do that if I were sending it out to people. If anything add it after your registry after the shower so no one gives you a side-eye.

We are registering for a high chair. It is one that reclines and has a separate infant insert. This way we can have the baby in the kitchen or wherever with us, and off the ground from the dog or other kids. So in this case we do plan on using it right away. I do think having the training toilet is odd. Had a friend that had that and was a little turned off by it.

Also remember that people may be putting things on there to remind them of what to get - not just for people to buy them everything that's on there.

A lot of time people put everything they want on their registry including pac n play stroller car seat etc. knowing these items are more expensive and most likely won't be received as a baby shower gift but most places will offer a discount on the items left on the registry after the shower. I did this with my first with all the stuff you need to buy the discount definately helps.

I didn't put the potty on b/c, as PPs have said it'll take up space until I use it. I did register for a high hair, although I hadn't planned on it. My SIL was with me & reminded me that you use that, a lot, within the first year. It'll be nice to have it when we need it. But I say, register for the potty if you want one! Or at the very least ask some people who will actually be coming to the shower. Everyone's been pretty nice about this so far here, but if there's one thing that gets bump panties in a wad, it's baby showers. IMO there is nothing gift grabby about registering for something you need & want, especially if it's under $50. You might even be thinking of others & trying to put more lower $ items on your registry. I know I tried to put a range of $ options on mine, with a lot more bottom range than top. That way if people want to chip in they can buy the car seat, or they can just buy a swaddleme.

I definitely think you should wait on the toilet. By the time these December babies are ready start potty training, they may have them with built-in bidets. ;-)

Unless you plan on putting everything you will need for the first 3 years on the registry, clothes, shoes, second car seat, child safety items, age appropriate toys, larger diapers, etc., I would not put the potty chair on there.

I like the one year rule, I'll use that as my guide. But really, the comment about not affording a plastic toilet... that gets an eye roll. I'm actually trying to add more items as I feel don't have enough things but really no explanation required.

@preggoandglowing tone is not properly conveyed in text and clearly you missed the wink which indicated I was speaking in jest... post this on the baby shower board and the responses you get will probably cause you to do more than roll your eyes. Put whatever you want on your list because it's yours but there's no set number of things you should have on your registry to make it complete. Putting things on the list just because you don't think you have enough is your prerogative but that will get you side-eyes, eye rolls and everything in-between because that is gift grabby.

Also, for the high chair- I know at BRU you can get matching sets of a swing, pack n play and high chair. So maybe they want it to match and 6+ months from now, who knows if it'll still be there.

I agree though that the toilet seat is a tad premature. I'd rather have things that I need right away while I'm trying to get the swing of things. That being said, if I saw it on someone's registry, I wouldn't think anything of it. I wouldn't buy it for them, but I wouldn't side eye it either.

I'd leave potty training off, but definitely add a high chair. Especially if you want one that's pricey. You'll get an extra discount if it's on your registry still when you need it.

I'm the friend that buys you one anyway. People need potties and they always appreciate not having to buy it later on. If you see one you like, register for it.
