Workplace preganacy hazzing

Hey all, I am 5 months pregnant and started a new job shortly before I found out I was pregnant. Part of the job requirements are lifting things that are WELL over the 25 pound limit the Dr.s give you and being exposed to radiation. I have submited a Dr written letter to my superiors stating that I am in no condition to perform these task until after I have given birth and now I can tell them no with no job related consequences. However I am now the vicim of one of my co-workers constant hazing because of the tasks I cannot preform due to my pregnancy. My superiors will not listen to me unless I have tried talking to this girl. But I fear this will only make things worse as talking to her in the past has never worked. And now I am starting to get it from others as well. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do about it? Did the stress effect your baby at all?

  • Yea, that's not okay. I would tell your superiors that they will address this issue or your lawyer will be contacting them. And then of course, get a lawyer. Good luck!

  • Talk to your HR rep. If that doesn't help, I second the lawyer.

  • Definitely go to HR. Your superiors are already not listening to you, they're not likely to start. I'd go over their heads.

  • It's illegal to fire someone for being pregnant. She can do the job she was hired to do, just not while she is pregnant. If they fired her now while pregnant that is a can of worms the company wouldn't even want to go down. I recently got promoted and will be working for 3 months then taking maternity, I know my new boss isn't particularly happy but he said congrats and he just has to deal with it, there's nothing he can do and the ftse250 company wouldn't want to deal with a pregnant lady backlash and the bad publicity.

    It is and it isn't. There's always ways around it. If you're placed on disability and can't do your job and your employer doesn't have a position available, they don't have to keep you.

    This. You have to be able to perform the essential job functions of your position. That basically means that whatever they post on something like monster.com as the job duties, you have to be able to perform. If you can't do that for whatever reason, they don't have to keep you if it would put the company under financial distress or it would be a major distraction/inconvenience to give you all the accommodations you need to perform the job

  • I agree, talk to the manager, if he does nothing about it, HR, and EEOC! Then lawyer!!! By the managers doing nothing its encouraging the hazing! I have filed with the VA EEOC because I was discriminated against and hazed due to my pregnancy. It was only by the director!! But they asked about other employees, and so on... And told me that they can investigate employees that hazed me too. And file charges against them as well.
  • I'm carrying twins and want limited to 25 pounds of weight. I was told I could do what I did before until it became too difficult. I'm 26 weeks and lift my 25 pound toddler dozens of times per day. MUD
  • I'm lifting my 40 lbs. toddler multiple times a day. I call MUD on a doctor imposing a 25-lbs weight lifting limit unless there is another medical reason for it.

  • I'm lifting my 40 lbs. toddler multiple times a day. I call MUD on a doctor imposing a 25-lbs weight lifting limit unless there is another medical reason for it.
    With my first my doctor told me to not lift anything over 25lbs. I was in good health, 17 when I got pregnant, in high school, and working. No reason for it other than safety they said. The second pregnancy my doctor told me to be careful lifting over 25 lbs but I would know what was my own limit. This time they told me "I don't need to tell you what to do, you've figured it out at this point." Maybe her doctor did give her the weight limit as a standard in their office.
