Taking baby out

My LO will be 8 weeks tomorrow. My cousin is having a little church together Saturday. I'm debating if I should take him or not. I know certain people like my sister don't suggest taking the baby out around people until he gets his first shots (2 months)

Re: Taking baby out

  • My baby will be 8 weeks on Monday and he has been everywhere! We go to church regularly, yesterday I had a ceremony for my citizenship where there where over 5,000 people and he slept through most of it. I'm a teacher so we went to visit my students at 6 weeks. I suggest keeping him in a carrier on you, so that only those you want around you get close. But don't do anything you're not comfortable with!

  • My baby will also be 8 weeks on Monday! But I have also brought her everywhere; church, stores, etc. I maybe should be more careful with germs, but she usually stays in her car seat :)
  • My baby is 6 weeks and she goes everywhere with me. She does stay in either her carrier or a sling most of the time... I figure she is going to daycare at 8 weeks, so she better get used to the germs... Plus she has a 7 year old sister that brings home all sorts of germs! All that being said, you have to do what feels right for you... I'm very comfortable telling people to please not touch her or they need to wash their hands before touching her... If you don't mind telling people to back off (or drape a blanket over the car seat to deter people).
  • We've been out & about quite a bit. But he stays in his car seat carrier with the car seat cover often draped over. I also don't mind telling people to wash their hands but really no one is touching him. He pretty much sleeps through when I take him out
  • Forgot to say My LO was admitted to the hospital for 2 days during the weekend due to having a summer cold (100.2 temp, stuffy nose & cough) Only reason he had to stay in the hospital was because some results took 48hours to come back. He is much better now, temp has been back to normal since Sunday and no more cough. But I will keep him in the car seat, and will let people know they can't touch him.
  • LO has been to church for the past 2 Sundays at 2 and 3 weeks old respectively. I just carry her and I'm not terribly concerned with germs at this point. Only one person asked to touch her and they prefaced the request by promising they had just washed their hands lol. My older DD was born in the fall and her pediatrician banned going out with her for 6 weeks which was so hard!
  • My LO is 6 weeks tomorrow. I've taken her out to multiple places -- not a lot of places but that's not because of germs or not wanting to take her out, I'm just usually busy with LO at home. I just don't take her to places where a ton of people want to hold her and pass her around right now.
  • Baby is 4 weeks and we have been out. We went to an adult birthday party for a little while and she stayed in her car seat, nobody really touched her. She has been to Target and the grocery store a few times with me carrying her, I took her to my job to visit my boss and co-workers (my boss is the only one who asked to hold her) and of course she has been to the pediatrician several times with other germy sick kids walking by! I think as long as you're not letting people play pass the baby the whole time you are fine.

  • My son is 7 weeks and I avoid taking him anywhere. Not just for germ reasons but I have anxiety about it. FTM and I would hate it if he got really upset while we were out. My mom was here and made it a mission to go out and do things for three days in a row. Out to eat kind of sucked bc had to feed him in the middle of eating and it's just not as comfortable as it is at home. Shopping he just slept bc he was in the stroller. However he has been a routine type baby from the beginning. Getting out was good but it kind of threw things off. His nap kind of got off so he was super exhausted later on. I wish I was like these moms that just goes wherever like its no biggie! I just have that anxiety: I know his cries and I know his schedule but I'm pumping too so every three hours. It's just more of a hassle for us right now then fun.
  • my daughter is 10 weeks and we haven't been out, but she was in the NICU and they said to try and avoid big crowds and stuff for the first couple months and other things in the first year. It is up to you :) if you feel comfortable with taking your baby out, just be cautious. Or if you can wait for another week or so until your baby can get your shots, wait. You can even ask the pediatrician since your baby is so close to the 2 month mark if you can get the shots earlier
  • We go for walks and I go to friends houses but I haven't really been out in public for too long. I get too anxious.
I worry about him being fussy and not being able to calm down.
I like being at home for now where were comfortable.

My husband just told me I should go hang out with my MIL at her hotel and I can't understand why she wouldn't just come here.
What am I supposed to do at the hotel? Just sit on the bed with the baby? I can do that at home.
  • I have to pick up my son from aftercare every day so there is that but I started taking her to stores, restaurants etc at about 6 weeks. I try to go at off times when places are not too crowded.
  • He just saw his pediatrician on Wednesday and the nurse suggested putting socks on the baby to avoid germs

What symptoms did your LO have summer cold wise? What did they do for your LO? What made you decide to take them to the hospital?

Before I took him to the hospital... He had temp of 100.3 stuffy and cough... After removing all his clothes and placing a cold cloth on his forehead to see if he's temp would go down it didn't after 7 hours I decide to take him in. They took blood work, X-rays and did the meningitis test. Dr was worried he had sepsis. Results took 48 hours to come back so they admitted him, they started him on antibiotics till results came in. After admitting him he's temp went back to normal. Thank god everything came back normal.
