Fluid Aspiration?? Anyone hear of it?

Today I am 9dp5det. 2 embies. I have been constipated for about 2 weeks but in the last 3 days my abdomen has been very distended and hard to touch. It is very uncomfortable. My RE examined me today and after doing ultrasound said that I have a lot of free flowing fluid in my pelvic and abdominal cavity. Although it is not confirmed until beta results but she said most likely it is +. She said it it due to my body being hyper stimulated with a lot of hcg hormones. So I was instructed to stop my progesterone n estrace and have the fluid surgically aspirated tomorrow. Has anybody heard of this? I am very scared. I just don't know why I just can't have a normal pregnancy like so many woman do.

Re: Fluid Aspiration?? Anyone hear of it?

  • @MelenaZ oh girl I am so sorry that u have to go through all this extra trouble on top of our regular fertility trouble. Hope it is nothing too major. And congratulations. Hope u have a happy and healthy 9 months once this surgery is done. I have heard about removing fluid if Over hyperstimulated. But not about free flowing ones? What did the doctor say? Is it a very rare occurrence or does it happen to some people and that they see this type of cases occasionally?? Keep us posted and hope you feel better soon.

  • @Binnie505 thank u for ur concern. Yesterday is saw the re on call so I didn't get many questions answered. I just spoke to my re and she said I have OHSS. I am very scared and hope everything goes ok.
I'm so sorry about beta. I hope the fet works. Fx and prayers for u.
  • BFP mentioned**

I have to wonder if this is maybe what's been going on with me. Between the egg retrieval, hormone supplements and pregnancy, I can't tell what is normal and what is not normal to be feeling. I was really bloated and constipated after the ER, but then that seemed to mellow out a bit. After the ET I started estrodiol patches and was already on progesterone suppositories and started to get bloated and constipated again. So much so that my abdomen was firm, big and painful to the touch. I would wake up on the middle of the night with painful cramping. I couldn't lay on my stomach. Of course I assumed it was the hormones. Then after I got my BFP and knew I was pregnant, I thought it's all normal. My ovary area never seemed to bother me, just my abdomen. Slowly over the past few weeks the swelling has gone down and it doesn't hurt so much. Now just my ab muscles hurt, like I've been doing tons of crunches. I haven't seen a doc or nurse since my ET, and I never thought it was bad enough to call and mention it. I suppose it could be a mild form of OHSS and maybe it is slowly going away on it's own??

@MelenaZ I wouldn't worry too much hun. I read up on it a lot after I read your post (as I thought it may be what I was going through) and it seems like a minimally invasive procedure. I hope it all goes easy on you and that everything is ok!! I hope you get your BFP!

  • @krbjoy thank u for ur response. I had the procedure done and I woke up with instant relief. Although I am still swollen n distended in my abdomen it is much better. I am told to increase my salt intake to drain excess fluids out so that's what I'm working on.
I think what u described may have been OHSS also. It does clear itself over time. U do need to be concerned if u gain 2lbs or more over 2 consecutive days. Congrats on ur BFP. And I did get my BFP officially today. My hcg was 437. Thank u.
  • @MelenaZ oh I'm so glad you found relief! Even more glad that you got your official BFP!! That's a solid number. I will pay attention to my weight for sure, thank you!
