Trouble TTC

Clomid when ovulating

been Ttc for over a year, infertility testing since last month, went in for possible rx of clomid based on symptoms and test results, dr did ultrasound just to make sure and saw possible ovulation that weekend, to buy ovulation kit and to email him when it was positive, positive over weekend as predicted, 5 days later I begun spotting for about a week then Got my pd. I have been having the same symptoms for last 6 months now. Asking for next step .. Dr now is requesting another kind of ultrasound (saline)that was never discussed pushing back treatment back another month, then stated progesterone and clomid could be prescribed. Concerned since I seem to be ovulating just something going on since my pd is so long my body doesn't have time to prepare for a pregnancy

Re: Clomid when ovulating

  • Welcome!  If you haven't already, please take a moment to read our New Visitors Post.

Everything that you have described so far points to very good care from your doctor.   You could have something described as 'weak ovulation' which means that you're ovulating but not producing enough hormones to get or remain pregnant.   Clomid is not only for people who are not ovulating, it might help you produce a "stronger" ovulation which would be a better egg and higher levels of progesterone.     Constant spotting can be indicative of low progesterone, which is why he mentioned it.

Nobody should ever take Clomid or any other infertility drug before proper testing, which includes an HSG or saline sono.  This is because blocked tubes are extremely common and you'd be wasting a lot of money, time and heartache by proceeding with no chance of getting pregnant.  GL

  • I second what @GoldenKeys said. She knows what she's talking about. I'd go ahead with any tests the doctor recommends. I had a whole slew of testing before I could continue treatment.

  • My husband and I were diagnosed with male factor infertility. I ovulate every month on my own with no concerns regarding luteal phase or anything. I take clomid so there will be more follicles and more chances each month.

It took 3-4 months of testing before we could begin treatment. Getting the right diagnosis will make it much more likely for your doctor to be able to prescribe you a treatment that will work. I know it is frustrating but this time is helping them to figure out what is going on.
