Pelvic girdle pain and hypermobile

Hi ladies, I am 24 weeks and have hypermobility which means my ligaments were already loose enough to give birth but are now loosening more. My pelvic girdle region is bothering me a lot especially if I sit or lay around. I was wondering if anyone else is having pelvic girdle pain and if anyone is hypermobile too. I've heard my chances of slightly early/on time baby is higher and likelyhood of an easier labor and delivery is also higher. Anyway wondering if there was anyone else out there.

  • Mine is a little different but I still feel like a mess. I have SPD and have started physical therapy, found out there there was a lot out of alignment (hips, public bone, part of my back). I'm getting that worked out but at the last session she checked my ligaments and muscles and raised some concern that while one side is tight (both muscles and ligaments) the ligaments in the other side are too loose. She has ideas for working on it and has me doing exercises and working on obtaining a support belt, but I'm still concerned for what it could mean with delivery and my recovery afterwards, even that I'll be able to keep up activity later in pregnancy with the preparations that need done and looking after DS.

A big thing the physical therapist has been pushing, besides the belt to hold things together, is strengthening the muscles to help take some of the work off the ligaments, as well as learning to move to minimize the risk of injury as much as possible.

  • I have SPD too, my right side is hyper mobile and my left side is tight from trying to compensate. I work at a physiotherapy clinic luckily so I have a borrowed SI belt that helps a lot. I also make sure I wear supportive shoes and do a lot of stretching of my adductor muscles and hip flexors. Taping has also helped a lot, it got me thru my first preg and is definitely getting me thru this one. Also, my biggest life saver is my chiropractor, I see her every 1-2 weeks and for the last week I didn't have any pain at all. I can still feel clicking and shifting of my pelvis but at least it doesn't hurt.
