Hi, i'm about 22 weeks pregnant with a little boy!! Last night I noticed a Abcess, (I believe) on my bottom left gum where my Wisdom tooth is impacted, should I be concerned??
You should definitely call the dentist and go in. If you have an infection, you need to be treated and a dentist will be the one to determine that. Good luck!
As PP said you should call your dentist. You don't know what they will prescribe and he/she may need to drain it. Rather than just taking things you have lying around I would call.
Definitely don't take something without talking to your doctor first. I agree with PPs. See your dentist, tell them you aren't willing to have the surgery while pregnant and surgery what else they can do in the mean time.
They are antibiotics I was prescribed a few weeks ago, for a sinus infection, they are safe while pregnant, I DID call them, they kept saying X-rays and removing them, even after I said I was pregnant
I would try to ask around to other people to get opinions about a new dentist in your area. I have been a dental assistant for 9 years and I can tell you that we have only taken a digital X-ray on someone who is pregnant in an emergency situation and have done minimal work to get someone out of pain, but this is ONLY with clearance from their OB which is literally the first question we ask them is about getting clearance. We have always just gotten someone out of pain but never sent them for a referral to remove the teeth until after pregnancy. I would try to see someone else or explain that you don't feel comfortable with doing extensive work while pregnant.
I would go in and see your dentist. They can assess and diagnose the situation in person. You might not have an abscess- only your dentist will be able to tell. Pregnancy can cause gum swelling and sensitivity, so it could just be inflammation. I hope you feel better soon!

The thing with antibiotics is they don't all help with the same types of infections. Even if this one is safe and helped with your sinus infection, it may not be what you need for the absess. That's why I would encourage seeing your doctor or dentist and see if the antibiotic is one they think would help or if you'd need a different one, or if that's even exactly what is going on.
Why don't you want to have it done while pregnant? Does it have to be general anesthesia? I had to have an infected wisdom tooth pulled in the first trimester, my dentist and OB both explained that a returning oral infection while pregnant is more risky than having it pulled. It was done under local anesthesia, I wasn't able to take anything other than Tylenol and the infection resolved with an antiseptic rinse.
It sounds like you've looked at the risk of having it done but have you looked any at the risk of holding off? I'm not trying to sound mean or make you feel pressured to do anything but am curious how much research you've done.
Also since it popped have you tried antiseptic mouth rinses or even rinsing with warm salt water?

The first time mine was abscessed, my dentist said to use warm salt water the first few days and then switch to an antiseptic. Salt water is gentler on open wounds, whereas antiseptic rinse can hurt the skin cells of a fresh wound.
ETA the only antibiotic I could take that I wasn't allergic to and baby-safe never took care of the issue completely. Continuous antibiotic use and returning infection was more harmful than the pain and stress of the removal. The extraction hurt like no other because only half the area could be numbed due to infection, but once that tooth was out the relief was so worth it.
I'm a little concerned that you have extra antibiotics in the first place, when you get prescribed antibiotics it's extremely important to finish the entire course. Otherwise you only kill off the weaker bacteria leaving the stronger ones to multiply and potentially making your infection that much worse.
You should definitely get a second opinion on your tooth though, oral infections can be really dangerous because they can get into your bloodstream and escalate the situation quickly. At least that's what the specialist told me a couple years back. Maybe ask your OB what they think?

Oral infections can also reach the jaw bone, making it ten times more painful and harder to get rid of. Sometimes the infection needs to be scraped away.
Here's the thing, I understand that you are concerned about having them removed but you have a ways away before baby comes and it may just continue to get worse. I had 2 root canals done a few weeks ago because they were bad and needed to be taken care of. Once you tell your dentist that you are pregnant they are considerate and make sure that you and baby are safe. All I'm saying is that you might make things worse for yourself if you don't get something done.
I would definitely go and see a dentist and speak to your OB about it also, I've read horrible things with stuff like this, can put you in preterm labour etc if bad enough. A friend of mines OB wanted her to get her tooth out while pregnant rather than leaving it due to the possibilities of what can go wrong. Make sure you make an informed decision. To the anti biotics you already have I am also baffled as to why you would still have some as they area course but nonetheless different nati biotics are used to treat different things so I would get some proper advice on this. Good luck hope it eases soon.
I would definately maybe see an oral surgeon and find out your options an infection in your mouth can get into your bloodstream and make you sick it's not good to just leave it be. As pp posters mentioned there are so many options as far as antibiotics go and certain ones treat certain infections. That's why usually when you have a uti they send a culture to the lab to make sure you are taking the right one for the specific bacteria. That being said I'm sure there are some options for you I just had to have a lump in the roof of my mouth removed and biopsied last week it was I have a hole in the top of my mouth an inch long and deep enough I can put my pinky in. They used a local anesthetic for the procedure and gave me pain medication antibiotics and a numbing mouth rinse. Both my OB and the oral surgeon were comfortable with doing this while I am pregnant. Best wishes and I hope you find some relief soon.
